Default Again... timing!

I'm wondering.... do I really need to retartd timing, or will it work without retarding?

Setup:
D14A4, c/r 9.1
Garrett T2, intercooler
10:1 FMU, inline fuel pump
using 98 octane gas (equivalent to 93 in US)
maximum planned psi=6

I'm just looking for advices... will stock timings do, or do I need to retard timing? If so, how much? I'd mostly like if I wouldn't need, but if needed I think 1, maybe 2 degrees should be most?

What u guys think?

To be on the safe side I would retard about 3-4 deg for 6psi

3-4? So much?

O'well.. guess it'll be best when charge pipes r on, and test if there's any detonation.. if not, than I'll back it up 1 degree just in case. If there is.. back it up 'till no detonation and than another 1 degree.

But, guess it might work even without any detonations, since most kits that are 5.5psi don't offer anything to retard timings.

Still as said.. seems like best way is to test it...

what is your altitude? what does your gas use as far as AKI additives? if not you might get away with full factory advance and running 12.5:1 or richer AF. your high octance gas ignites later than 89MON/91MON gas so the retard is built into the gas !!!!!!

I'm little above sea level - 200meters, as far as aditives go.. dunno! I know only it's rated 98octane (in europe) - which is equivalent to 93US.

Actually found this on 'net:
98RON (europe rating) = 90MON = 94PON (US octane rating)

no such thing as PON, its either Research or Motor Octane num, research number is usually two points above depending on minimum additives - most important is if you can get an AKI rating - anti knock index. european gas is extremely well blended, 200 meters is the same where I am, I ran full factory advance (16-18) and 9PSI on a 9.2:1 motor with no knock sensor to pull timing and made great numbers. too bad I have never heard of your motor 1.4L, is it a kick start or pull start motor? just kidding.

i dont think it matters if its a turbo or sc so i'll post what i've found on my sc. for daily driving i use 1.0 deg/lb boost just to be on the safe side. you never know when you'll get a bad tank of gas, etc. if i'm racing or if its a nice cold night, i'll turn it down to around .7. i've never gone lower than .6 but even at .6 i've never heard any detonation. i just like to be on the safe side i guess, because it doesnt make much more power when you're comparing .5 to .7. so i figure why risk it. Well, on that site it stated 'PON'... tho I know somewhere it's also as CNC for US fuel... dunno :>

Anyway, I'll try with stock ignition settings, as plan to boost 6psi, 7 MAX. If no detonation, will retard 1 degree... just in case

Tnx for all coments.
