30-1020, 96 GS-R turbo.
Car drives onto the rollers no problem, shut off and strap it down, go to restart the car and nothing. No ECU comms, no fuel pump relay, zip. Plug in the stock ECU (always carry your stock ECU in the car) and the car fires right up, although running a bit rich with 550cc injectors.
At this point we're pretty **** off because we moved another customer off to do "a few quick pulls" on this Integra and guys want to go home early today to watch the hockey game. Tried the firmware recovery program several times with no luck. So to make a short story shorter, I opened the EMS, flashed the 0.94 fin file straight onto the chip and the car fired right up after uploading the map.
Will an AEM engineer please explain what is going on here, and what will be done about it?

How do you open up the EMS and flash the .94 fin file straight onto the chip? Sounds like it might be a useful recovery technique...

You've got to have an EEPROM programmer handy and some electronics know how.
Something is corrupting the datastream to the ECU from the laptop. AEM put some code in the .94 release(s) to try and stop this and may have put some in even earlier, as you've seen it's not a perfect fix. I know in at least one case they found some sort of funky gorund loop between the serial laptop connection and the laptop that caused the laptop to draw power through the serial gorund and fry a resistor on the AEM board but that doesn't sound like the problem here. AEM has collected several toasted chips in order to try and figure this out and my fingers are crossed that 1.0 will finally seal the deal here. From my conversations with AEM I know this is HIGH on their list of fixes - like #1 - but they've not been able to easily duplicate it. Without being able to duplicate it it's going to be REAL hard to solve

We are fairly confident we have found the problem with the EEPROMs, we are doing testing on it now to make sure we haven't un-fixed something else in the process. Version 1.0 will have the new EEPROM fix and should be available very soon. We are doing final conformation and getting the details worked out of a conversion utility for the older calibration files.

Thank you for updating us on this. One guy here with an 1100 has had his flash rom blank out 3 times and won't put the EMS back in his car until it's fixed.

JW - can you share any details on what was happening? Is it somehting we can avoid doing in the meantime?

Its all good. Do not give into Hondata
When I was having all my problems everyone was saying go hondata. I was so close to going but I stuck with it and figured out the problems and had the car running perfectly the day it got stolen. I am glad I could help the thieves get a nice running car. Bastards. BUt seriouly stick with the AEM. I would go back to version .89 for the least amount of headaches but if you like to tinker and learn about the bugs in .94 stay with that version. Just make sure you have another car to drive when and if the aem decides to be a b!tch.
