As of yesterday I'm using it on mine. I had a buddy of mine (Jeff C. on H-T) weld part of my AEM onto the rest of my aluminized steel piping. The weld didn't turn out perfect because it got too hot but it gets the job done.

What type of welder was used to weld aluminum to steel??

I am just that good...j/k
Mig with straight Argon gas.
It was just an experiment, but it held.
Weld looks like ****, but it works so far.

Im thinking of doing this only because my girlfriend bought me the intake when I first of my car and I kinda want to keep on there in some form or another.... and also I like the bends on it. Does anyone know what kind of metal the AEM CAI is made out of and how think it is?

I used all of 91's Aem except about 6" where the bov is.
I guess its aluminun.

Why not just use a silicone connector and t-bolt clamp or just make it all aluminum. You can put a nice little tig weld on it that way. I've never heard of anyone successfully welding steel to aluminum. I weld both very well, but have never tried to weld the two together.

We did not have enough silicone connectors and when I cut the steel section with the bov flange welded to it, I did not leave enough room on the intake side for a connector. We did however use a connector on the other side of the bov piece.
Trust me, I would have liked to do it differently, but he was a little impatient. I might do another one in the future when the newness wears off.

BTW, these are the pipe bends we used.

I used to use those bends but i recently started using the ones that Applied Racing Technologies sells. They are better quality steel, weld much better, and they have tighter radius bends available. They are pretty reasonably priced too. Only go up to 2.5" though so no crazy 3" exhaust systems with these. You should check them out, much better to work with than the jc whitney stuff.

Damn I tried to weld aluminum the other day with my mig, what a freakin disaster. I've gotten pretty good with the mig..I think the problem was the gas mix I have instead of all argon.

To weld aluminum you ar supposed to use straight argon.
I did it on the first time.
