Yes advance your timming as much as possible. The more nitrious the more timming you'll need....LOL j/k.. First off DO NOT mess with cam timming if your not going to go to the dyno. 6 degrees is a lot. The ECU can not change the timming of the cams(unless it's a K series) The ECU retards the Fuel and Ignition timming. More nitrious less timming. If you run advanced timming then you will probaly get some detnoation / knocking while spraying. Please do more research on the matter. Try searching here or even on google. A couple people i know prefer running stock ecu because it's running stock timming. The most helpful thing too is talk to people that have run nitrious on a similar setup. Please be adviced spraying will eventually pop that motor.

Your suppose to retard the timing.

If you want to be safe take it to a dyno and have it professionally done.

I swear to god I'm going to lose my mind if I have to hear this crap one more time... I was totally impressed with your entire post and the good info you gave right up until that last line. Do yourself a favor and research what nitrous is, what it does and DOES NOT do as in "pop that motor". Yes it can but it is no more risky than using FI....stupidity blows motors NOT power adders. Installed and used properly it will NOT reduce the lifespan of any engine.

It would help out if you gave us a better description of what engine you had in your car and mods. I'm not sure if you're confusing cam timing and ignition timing and thinking it is the same thing so I'll start with the adjustable cam gear. Do not start adjusting that cam gear without being on a dyno and seeing what you're doing. 6 degrees sounds like an awful lot unless you want poor engine performance or engine damage, tune it on the dyno properly. As for your ignition timing, you can advance or retard it simply by moving the distributor. What nitrous kit are you running? how many hp shot will it be? If it's a 50 hp shot a -2 degree retard should be adequate. Also a 50hp shot doesn't normally require you to change your plugs to colder ones but if you did, one step colder should be fine.

my civic is a d16z6 sohc vtec with a full msd ignition(sci) full cold air.. header... exhaust muffler.. high flow fuel pump(venom)... and a venom 400 controller.. thats my mods.. now the nitrous would be a 40 shot from a 10oz bottle... sneeky peke setup... kinda ghetto.. but hey its still nos..

yeah normally you would retard timing, and make sure fuel is proper

is that venom thing for all motor? I bet that advances your ignition timing up top a lot. I would take that thing off for the nitrous unless you can somehow adjust it.

leave your stock plugs in, they'll be fine with only a 40 shot unless they're platinum, in which case they should be rplaced period. Retard your (ignition) timing back a max of 1-2 degrees. Turn your Venom 400 off when runing nitrous to be on the safe side. You should really invest in a real nitrous street kit since the sneeky pete systms don't last long enough to make any real difference.
