Default ACT clutch life

Just wondering what everyone elses average clutch life for an XTH6 (xtreme pressure plate and 6 puck disc) is? My disc wore through the pressure plate and flywheel surface after about 5500 miles rendering it useless and that's with mild driving in an LS. So i switched back to an XTSS.

Never had one of those, but my act 4 puck and xx pressure plate has lasted two years, beginning of last season when the car was running 12.9 to the end of this season running 11.4 and I've really beat on it too.

serious?! My 6 puck lasted maybe 5500 miles... the disc ate about 1/16 of an inch of material off of my PP friction surface as well as the Flywheel surface... hrmm... ACT man?

Can anyone else tell me how their 6 puck (unsprung center section) experiences went?

anyone know what could've caused my clutch to go so suddenly? I compared the surfaced of my 140k mile stock PP with the 5500 Xtreme pp and the XTpp looks worse. Another funny thing is - moments before my clutch went out, it still grabbed just as hard as the day i installed it, no slipping involved.

I'll admit, i had a maybe 2 dozen graces of my 2 step 4500rpm launch control and some glorious 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, but nothing too intense. Installation went perfectly, Greased all the appropriate bearings... torqued everything to a little bit beyond spec (as so stated in the ACT handguide) and used a lil thread lock.

did you resurface your flywheel? IF not that will prematurely eat away at clutch, or vice versa, can't remember which one.

but lots of people use them for that purpose and get a whole lot more life than 5.5k out of them.

now, as far as the pressure plate goes..do it wear THROUGH rendering it useless? cause since the disc is a much harder cerametallic compound vs. the stock kevlar it WILL take material off the pressure plate. The flywheel however, maybe have not been resurfaced and caused uneven/premature wear.

I had a 6puck ACT HD setup for about 40k miles. Daily driver b16a2, then b16a2 nitrous, then b16a2 turbo, then b20vtec all motor. Held fine.

6 puck clutches don't need to be broken in, if you constantly drive it and rev it to 3k rpm when u take off so u don't get chatter than the clutch will wear alot quicker cuz like some one else said the disc material is harder than the p-plate. Kinda like with brakes, if u don't like brake dust buy harder pads, less dust but it will eat away your disc faster. I used to have a clutch like that, I hated it, and after a few thousand miles took it out and it already had a noticeable grove cut in it.

I have and Ex PP and a 6puck unsprung, and I have had no problems with it. I have used it for approximately the same amount of time you have, and I have been nothing but happy with it.

I have the act 6 puck in my car with the heavy duty pressure plate for about 15k miles. Put a new tranny in today and took a look at the disc and the thing looks like it is gonna be time to get a new clutch in another few oil changes. I found this real strange but i guess it isnt as weird as i thought since i see some of you having the same problems. I drive the car pretty damn easy but do try to take off real easy most of the time and ride it a bit more than i should. that must be why.
