Default 9psi Woes

I'm glad you all are planning to go to 9psi b/c I'll have the pulley to sell! I have had nothing but problems. I've had vacuum leak symptoms forever and then figured that out. Screwed the bleeder valve all the way in and that fixed it and boost pressure actually went up about 2-3 lbs to 10psi. People called me crazy and said the cartech can't bleed off boost, but my boost pressures were higher with the bleeder valve closed.

With the closed bleeder valve also came sky high fuel pressures, even with my 30lb injectors. So, to combat the high pressures I put in a restrictor for the cartech and the other thing (can't think of the name now) that plugs into the hole at the bleeder valve. That helped to drop fuel pressures and then this is when I really f'd up.

I installed a Prelude OEM FPR with a B&M to lower fuel pressures. This combo worked like a charm. Idle pressures were 32, static 42, and WOT was around 70 or so. Perfect right? Wrong. The car ran worse with this setup than ever. Code 43's plauged me the whole time until I took it off. I replaced it with the Civic OEM FPR and haven't had those problems since.

I went to the dyno the other day with very surprising results. Initially the power and tq with the 9psi pulley were 182 and 148 respectively. Not bad power but with 6psi I had 168.8 and 137.2 with absolutely nothing wrong, nothing. The other day my readings were, are you ready for this: First pull was 118hp and 129tq!!!! More tq than hp in a honda? The fuel curve was a rich at 5g and lean at 6 so I adjusted it the best I could and ended up with about 6more hp and less tq. We thought there were problems with the dyno so we didn't think much of it at the time. Noone there really knew what they were doing. The guy that normally runs it wasn't there (racing in Yakima). Come to find out when he came back he looked at the dyno settings and my recent runs and said the dyno was fine My car is doing funny stuff right now with this pulley.

At 6psi the car ran like a beast. 14.7 at 98 with a 2.4 60ft!!!!!!! If I could get those down I would see a 14.3 or so which I have heard of noone with a time like that on an LS JRSC with 6lbs. This is on shitty michelins and stock diff mind you, at SIR, which is known as one of the worse tracks these days and not only by imports, even the big boys say that.

To complement this 9lb upgrade I have all the fuel goodies: 30lb injectors, cartech 2005, B&M, Apex VAFC (yes it works with an LS) and JR BTC. I also have some detonation which I never had before with 6psi.

I plan to keep the AFC, BTC and injectors with the transition back to 6 and will sell the pulley. If any of you are interested let me know. I'm not going to say "it's great, you'll love it" b/c I hated it. I know chuck likes his. Maybe some of you will like it too.

Sorry for the book!

Zach

have you tried using the Vortech FMU. there disk style of changing ratois works much better then bleeding off boost.

if I'm not mistaken those pumps are done at about 90 psi. what is your fuel pressure needing to be at full boost?

That is the HO pump and is good to over 100 psi. I have 30lb injectors so fp doesn't need to be much over 75-80 if even that high. I'm seeing pressures around 90 and horrible gas mileage. Gas mileage doesn't really matter to me b/c this isn't a daily driver.

isnt it supposed to be the HP one that puts out the high pressure? on my LS Turbo I'm running about 9 psi and over 100 psi of fuel pressure at full boost. I'm also using 310cc injectors. My gauge goes to 100 and it's pegged, I'm running an 8:1 disk in my FMU so if you do the math it comes out to about 114 psi at full boost which is about where it's at. I seriously think you should try using a Bosch fuel pump. also the way the Cartech adjusts by bleeding off boost is kinda hokey, it's not linear. But I suppose it also depends on how much power you're making as to how much fuel you need.
