Default 8.3-1 compression steetcar ????

Basically I can get a good deal on a GSR shortblock (AEBS, Pauter, Ross 8.5-1 pistons).

If I use a b16 head, should be around 8.3-1 compression. How will this perform as a street motor, I'm running a precision SC50 for now.

Also the shortblock is a spare from a race car being parted out, ran on meth. Would the tolerence of the motor be to loose for the street??

Thanks

Going out in the cold without a jacket does NOT give you a cold.

Girls do NOT give you coodies and,

Low compression does NOT create lag; improper turbo selection does.

When Jeff's website is up again (Boosted Hybrid) you will find a great article in the tech section on this subject. Reading it would help your understanding.

I run 7.8:1 in a street car and would gladly trade compression for boost.

sc50 with a 3inch exhuast wont lag any more with 8.3:1 c/r than it would with 9.8:1

compression does not effect lag

tune it right and you wontknow the difference

Higher compression increases the thermal efficiency of your engine. I personally like 9.5:1 to 10.0:1 Compression ratios.

Thats kinda of what I am thinking,

I run a B16 right now and will probably just build this motor 83mm 9-9.5 to 1 when the time comes.

I guess I am just falling for all the hype of the GSR botom end being far superior to the B16......... Hell, I'm only shooting for around the 400WHP range

I might even try it on stock sleeves and put the other 1000 somewhere else

The extra torque of the GSR motor is well worth it for a street car.

Try doing lsvtec. I always have good luck with them. currently I'm running gsr block with ls crank and b16a head. I have a back up block which has old darton open deck sleeves with 81.5mm 9:8:1 weisco pistons and eagle rods. I might be selling that block though. good luck with whatever you do. I would go ls block since they're cheap and you can find them easy.

Does anybody have a rough idea in the difference in torque between a GSR and B16, given the same build and turbo set-up.

Basically using the same B16 head and same compression ratio

oh really...what if I ran 2.0:1 compression, I would need to run some puny little turbos?

7.5:1 on a D series here.
No problems driving off boost.
At all.
Your 1.8 should be just fine.
