Default 60-1 what do you think about it?

just wanted to see what people say about the 60-1 on a b16. I looked at the specs and the lbs/min is 61 that seems like alot for a b16 but I know alot of guys use this turbo on thier b-series. I'm turned off by the t3/t04e. I've read that the 60-1 is alot like the sc61. This info will help decide the turbo for my application I'm pretty settled on it my friend jeff (extremeboost.com) seems to thinks its a pretty good turbo but ofcourse he uses a gt35r on his mr2 lol. I guess more info might help it will be a fully built block blah blah blah lol I'm going with 10:1 comp as opposed to 9:5:1 this isnt going to be a 200whp si coupe with a nice set of rota circut 8 and CTR body work this will be all about the HP lol. Despite the trial user status I am very serious about this topic I joke about the build up because if you've heard on b16 build up you've heard them all so thats why i didn't go into detail about my setup.I appreciate it in advance any info you all can give me on this turbo and it's applicabilty would be great thanks guys.

if you're going to mess with a 60-1 and want serious horsepower, why not go with a SC-61 instead?

That may be true in terms of the price, but I've used several of the Turbonetics Street Series turbos, and I've just had some serious oil seal issues with their street line of turbos...

Their race line, however, different story.

I have a 60-1 with .82AR on my b16 and love it. Its cheap, proven again and again to make serious hp, and hits very hard. Plus you don't get a lot of low end spool around town which I like for driveability. Hits hard around 5k, with a bar of boost I haven't lost yet on street gas.

when putting so much time, money and effort into building such a good system, don't settle for 2nd best over 200 dollars. That's not a smart move.

I don't think that a garrett turbo is "second best" by any stretch of the imagination.

Honda-tech is full of a bunch of people that in summary do not know what they are talking about. Additionally, none of us know what your current situation is. If you are backed by a corporate sponsor who is giving you six figures to put together a car then your options definitely change. For everyone else in the world, a garrett will do just fine. I have never had oil leaks and have known many people who haven't also. They are decent enough to come as OEM turbos on numerous cars for many years which should tell you something. If you setup your oil lines right then you're fine. Most people recomending a precision turbo don't have the slightest clue on what the difference is between those and any other turbo.

There are many knoweledgable people on here. Watch the advice you take from even them, however, as many have a direct business interest in a particular product. There are many people that use a 60-1 and are happy, and there are many peopel that use a SC61 and are happy. I'd rather be happy with another hundred+ bucks in my pocket to take the car to the dyno with. I make 300whp at about 6900rpm at 15lbs and 315whp up to 9000rpm. This is through a catalytic converter, I'll have new numbers out soon without a cat. The 60-1 has proven to support over 500whp on a b16 motor, what more do you need?

Everyone was sweatin the 60-1 last year now its all about the sc61, there must be 20 or 30 of you out there who dont even have it on your car (sc61). Some of you people and your bandwagons To the poster, IF you wanna save $ go with the 60-1 im sure you wont be disapointed.

I dont have a SC61, but have done my research and am leaning towards a GT35R/GT35E.

If you want 400hp, or 500hp sure both can do it, but at what psi, the less psi you can achieve it with the better. All I can say is do your research well!

From what I could find, 520whp on 22psi for T3 hotside 60-1
From one of Arturbo's post he said 530whp at 24psi for a SC61

One thing to keep in mind is that I don't konw what static cr's these cars are running, so its difficult to compare, they seem even at those levels, however if you bump them up to 28 or 30 psi what will happen?

Now if you have a GT35E you will make more power at the same psi's, according to Rob from precision another 50HP, so then you "should" see 560-580whp @ 24psi...

Again, do more research.

COULD'NT HAVE SAID IT BETTER MYSELF.

QUICK QUESTION...

DID YOU KNOW THAT MOST ALL PRECISION TURBOS WERE MADE WITH GARRETT PARTS?

I actually missed that post, if you are getting 315whp at 15psi, then the SC61 is making more power at that level, I have seen a dyno on here where a SC61 makes 340whp at 10psi, and another one making 400whp @ 13psi. So it seems a bit more linear than th 60-1. It is actually quite difficult to compare these numbers, maybe one of the sponsors selling precision/garrett/turbonetics can put their turbo's to the test and take one car, and swap out on the exact same engine these turbo's and run them at the exact same psi, 10,15,20,25,30 and see what happens.

Any sellers up for a challenge?

ZoRG: Won't happen...

Needs to be done with turbo's, manifolds both exhaust and intake etc...

It's like they don't want a definative answer on the whole "which is better" question...

May be why it's always a question that comes up on H-T?

but they are all garrett turbos arent they?? I thought precision and turbonetics just played around with differnt wheels, porting and such but all in all they all use garrett parts (compressor, turbine, internals, etc), but I could be wrong...I would just get the garrett 60-1 its the same and will produce awesome numbers on a good setup, I believe you are just paying for the words precision or turbonetics but in the end i believe they are all the same family......And just because someone made this hp at this psi doesnt mean ****....2 setups identical i can guarantee wont produce the same numbers, other factors come into play

I heart my GARRETT

bandwagon schmandwagon... haha j/k

the precision turbo, even though fairly new to the market, has proven itself time and time again. From low boost to full boost most setups have maken great power. Actually if you search this board there is more sc61 dynos than most other turbo's and they are all great numbers. the 60-1 was "bandwagon" last year and its a good turbo as well.
