While taking apart my turbo setup I noticed that the Garrett t3/t4 has a hole like a blow by on the exhaust side but the flange for the downpipe had that hole welded shut. What effect will this have on the turbo??

 

Thats for an internally gated turbo. Alot of people block them off and use an external wastegate, which I assume you have. You should get a gasket, that flange looks beat.

 

Thanks for the quick response. Now that I'm redoing the setup that was on the car when I got it, I'm seeing lots of little things that need work. I might even end up getting a new flange with a gasket this time. You're right, that flange is pretty beat. Looks like there was some blow-by going on too.
