i was told NOT to put a Restrictor on my Precision SC61. Precision recommended 3AN line with no restrictor.

f-r told me a while ago, -4 = restrictor, -3 = no restrictor needed. i have always had -3 no restrictor.

Word thanks guys.. i have a 4AN just because thats what garret recommends on their site. If anyone can give me a definite answer on the size of the restricter that would be greatly appreciated.

Yes he did, but restrictors have different size orifices, which is what I am asking.

i think there should be some kind of punishment for having 3 threads on the first page, especially when 2 of them are about the same thing and all of them are semi-noob type questions.

anyways...if you want to get technical then nobody can answer this. you need to learn the specific oil pressure required for your turbo, then measure the pressure your engine makes. if the pressure is too much then a restrictor is needed. if you actually read the garrett site you will see that it says "there is no single restrictor size suited for all engines."

the site also says that a restrictor should only be added if over-oiling occurs. you will void any warranty if you starve the turbo so be careful adding one, that said i think a -4 line and .065 should be perfectly fine. or just grab a -3 and call it a day.

What you said is the logical way to do it, with measuring the oil pres, but I was specifically asking about the restricor size because I want to hear what other people are running as it would save a lot of time. I wouldn't say my questions aren't noobish at all, as a lot of other people are having the same questions, not to mention some people say no restrictor and some say yes use one.

Yes I asked this question in my other thread, but didn't really get any definite answers about the restrictor size specifically. That being said, thank you for answering my question dpetro1

What's happening is that even Garrett doesn't know all the standard oil pressures at the line to use on some turbos, so they always use a -4an, not knowing that it is not used until you get to the larger sizes. This is why the only people that will comment on their using a -4AN are for larger turbo sizes or for Borg-Warner turbochargers who use a larger -AN size line for their products.

I've never used -4AN on a T3 Garrett on a Honda, so someone else may be able to chime in. I just can't seem to remember it for the life of me.. I must be getting old.

With a straight -4 line you might be just fine for a long time, but that concern you have might merit getting a -3 line to not have to worry about it again.
