400whp street cars chime in! what tires you using?
So im really getting frustrated with my lack of traction lol. i have no traction in first or second so i obviously need a better tire. i have slicks for the track but for street i have 205 dunlop direzza dz101's. it was a great tire for the money but now i need something better.
what is everyone else around the 400whp mark using for tires and sizes? My wheel is 7 inches wide so i was thinking some sort of 225 mickey thompson ET street?

At 400 whp, I really doubt anything less than a slick is going to help you man. I'm sure I sound like a downer but, why not take it easy while on public roads?
Correct me if I'm wrong, wouldn't you have to run the drag radials at a lower pressure for them to stick better?

215/45/16 falken rt615's seem to work pretty good for me...but im using boost by gear via apexi avcr... 4psi in 1'st, 6psi in 2'nd, 12psi in 3'rd and 16psi in 4'th. 440whp@16psi
if you want traction with lots of boost in lower gears you need DOT drag radials....or use a boost controller.

yep, thats what i ran for 400 hp. honestly 1st and 2nd gear still are sketchy if you launch it, but they hook in 3rd and up. i ran them at about 26-28 psi on the street and 9-10 at the track on oem si blades
this year i will be going with falken azenis and boost by gear

Go big if you want to hook second. There's no hope for 1st gear. I run these 235/60-15's. They do okay at 400whp but spin second at 490. Looks like a 4x4 lol

MT makes a 235/60/15 and a 255/60/15 for 15 inch x 7 wheels.... im thinking the 235, the 255 might be too big for stock fenders

Re: 400whp street cars chime in! what tires you using?
I ask becuase Ive been involved in many of these threads. Depending on the offset of your wheels, 255 will be hard. Do some searching and you will find what I'm talking about. Are you uniterested in bias plys? If not, you should go with the M&H tires. Better traction and better life than the MT. I would have gone M&H but due to a road hazard program issue I couldn't. I chose the hoosiers over the MT because they're cheaper and substantially lighter. I was amazed at how light they are. If I go 235/60-15 again it will be the M&H, people that have ran both the M&H and MT will tell you the go M&H.

I'm running toyo r888's on my ef. I'm making a little under 400whp, but i'm making 310wtq.
If i start with a 1st gear roll they dead hook 2nd and hold. However, launching they don't really hold till 3rd. I'm pretty impressed by the tire and they were ~85 each when i bought them.

The BFG 225's get decent traction but they chunk apart and shread reallly quickly for the street. I currently have these on my car. DO NOT USE THESE ON A DYNO BTW!!
I have been hearing good things about both 225 50 15's in the Toyo R888's and Toyo RA1's however the one thing that stands out to me is the Toyo RA1's come in a 8/32 thread depth which is the same depth as the Falken Azenis however the 225 compared to 205 should provide a little more grip (depending).
I will be ording a set of the 225 50 15 Toyo RA1's for my next tire.
