if a shop had single phase 240v 30amps is it possible to use a VFD to convert it to 3-phase 450v? is it safe to use a VFD for a dyno? just curious what you guys do to convert single phase to 3 phase? well i read about some posts about it, but most were for milling machines...etc, but couldnt find a post for a dyno, cause most machineries have hp rating and i dont know an hp rating the dyno uses!

any advice would helpful

what do i need to convert a shops single phase 240VAC 50hz 30amp power to 3-phase 450v?

need it for:
1- 3-phase Dynomemeter
2- 3-phase 14,000 CFM FAN
3- an extra output for future use!

need what sort of components i need and brands if possible to reach my requirements here? doing 3-phase serive is very expensive here so i need a cheaper route!!!!

I dont think you can convert single phase outlets to 3 phase. You'd have to do it in the house wiring.

I have 3 phase 400V in my garage, but thats normal here in europe.

well i saw those 1 to 3 phase motors to convert phase then from my knowledge i need a transformer to change voltage, but then current will get effected i believe, but since i mentioned what i need to power up i was looking for more info about what to do and what to choose in term of brands

Yikes. What are you trying to control here? A dyno drum?

This is kinda my real life job so I can help you out, but I hope whatever it is doesn't need a lot of HP (730ish watts per 1HP). 240V at 30amp can only take you so far.

P=V*I (Power=Voltage*Current )

Not to mention how expensive it is.

You should just take the 480 off the breaker box and wire it to where you are going. Plenty of power AND probably cheaper even with the new wiring

lol i Ohm's Law....have no idea whats a dyno drum?
i need to power up an automobile dynomemter and its fan....hmm.....is there another meaning for dyno here am not aware of?

thats the reason why i asked cause i know the dyno i have can read upto 1200hp, but thats not the same hp used to rate electric motors, so decided to ask what i need to provide to make the dyno operate safely

when you decide what route you want to go to get to 480v (you have a couple choices)... let me know I work for a very large electrical/ data supply company.

I can get some good pricing on transformers, wire, wiring devices, enclosures, subpanels, disconnects, and any other material you could think of...

maybe I missed it but did you figure out what draw you will have with the 480v?

btw whats your definition of economical or whats your budget... cause converting single phase to 3 phase is not going to be what I would consider cheap.

lol whats the standard amp provided with 3-phase ready service? i want to meet that! have no idea how much amp a dyno draws

I dont know that there is a standard really... services are designed and installed generally to accomidate a bit more than the max load they could see. So without knowing how much you require... its hard to know what hardware would be best suited to that application.

Cant you call the dyno manufacturer and find out how much its max draw is?
