My buddy gave me the idea to put his 14b on my gsr, he recently upgraded to the 16g. I know the turbo will fall flat after 5200 rpm but this is my DD and I am on a low budget so spare me. He told me I would need a T3/T4 mani and an adapter plate for the 14b. He also has 450cc DSM injectors Blue top, and a 1g DSM BOV.
My question is, what all is needed to be done to have this turbo on my gsr ? What would I need for the coolant/water lines ?

Way tooo small...The head on the B18C1 flows way more than a DSM's head. 14B will definately choke the engine. The coolant/water lines can be blocked off and is not needed to operate the turbo. Your going need to do as he says and get a manifold with a plate to convert it to 14B flange. Homemadeturbo.com has a bunch of resources for that. You going need a custom downpipe and oil lines. With that, your going need some intercooler piping but if your running low boost, you can get away not running an intercooler but still need piping from the turbo to the manifold and weld on a bov flange for the BOV. Then onto the electrical and fueling, you going need the 450ccs and some resistors to run it. Then you going need to control them by chipping or getting aftermarket ECU. But it's alot of work and it isn't easy without proper knowledge. I advise you to keep on reading and searching on Force Induction Form on how to Turbocharge a vehicle. I am probably missing some info here and there but that is the main jizz of turbocharging.
Search and you will find indepth information. Then search around homemadeturbo.com.

So im good by blocking off the coolant/water lines, but what about choking the engine ? Will it do more harm than anything ?
The 14b is too small for your GSR. You'll gain some low-mid range but the top end will completely choke out. Just because you have a turbo doesn't mean its wise and cost-efficient to boost your car. If you had a D series, i would tell you to run it, but not on a GSR. The smallest i would ever go on a GSR is a Super 60. That's a good cheap turbo for you to look at. IIRC, they're less than $600 new and will fit on most any cast T3 manifold.
i've riden in a gsr hatch with a 14b on 10psi few years ago. i think he was running the greddy manifold. i remember low end feeling amazing but top end felt like poop lol. definitely too small of a turbo for the gsr. like posted before, super 60 or bigger.

don't boost the car just for the sake of wanting boost. Your going to waste money on making the setup work around that small turbo and still be unsatisfied. I had a garrett .60/.48 on my old b16 found it for 200 on ebay. You can get a pretty big holset for around 300 if you spend some time on ebay.
I'm broke man, just bought my wheels not too long ago and started this semester for school. Probably still going to get the 14b on, then later on get a super 60 ! I dont really care about getting soo much power right now, just want a boosted car with my budget.

I'm a student too... been driving slow and NA until I can get setup properly...
I'm going to run a 14b on a 1.6... that'll do for my purpose... but not yours..
To offer another side, I have a 14b on a B18B, so not quite as demanding as a B18C. But, i never have any issues with boost or power dieing off in the top end, I only run the stock WG at 8-9psi. I love it though, gets full boost by 3k and pulls strong up to 7.2k. Granted, I use my car for Autox so I need the low to mid range power.
I say if you have a free turbo, build your kit, have fun doing it and learn a lot in the process. By the time you are done, you'll know way more about turbos and then you can pick one that fits your needs and wants.

DSM 14bs get tossed around and beat to crap all the time. this is not worth the investment.
I couldnt have said it better. The money you'll save running the 14b for now will be quickly overshadowed by the cost of having to switch everything out to run a T3 framed turbo.
