Default 11psi GSR (pistons/rods)blown. UPDATE!

hey all. i got a turbo gsr making 290whp and 195TQ i blew my engine today at the top of secod gear shifting into third!

im not sure what happened but radiator fluid spashed all over my winshield and my hood and tailpipe started smoking.

I pulled over and checked under the hood. the top hose to the radiator was disconneced and that must be where the water spray camefrom. other than that there was no visable signs of what could have went wrong! I drove to my house (1/2 mile away) and the whole way it ws smoking from the tailpipe what loked like white smoke, and also some smoke was coming from the hood.

anyone have any idea of what happened and how much itll cost me? I have pistons and rods so those shouldnt have went bad however they only were broken in for 3,000 miles! Also there was probably only about 1.5-2 gallons left in my gas tank. Maybe that could have been a factor(combustion in the cylinders)? HELP!!! i really hope i dont have to get my motor rebuilt because i just had one 6 weeks ago!

Maybe your motor mounts are bad and shifting with all that mad power yanked your hose off?

you either didnt have the hose connected well or the head may have lifted and pressurized the cooling system and blew it off, which woulda blown the head gasket too. fill it up clean it up and run it and see what happens, dont run it hard though be nice to it for testing purposes.

i hope you didnt drive it with the hose off after you discovered this.

First two things that come to mind: Cracked sleeve or head lift

Do you have ARPs??

I DO HAVE ARP's. i hope its not a cracked sleeve i could always buy new sleeves but if it cracked than that means that it might have scrached the pistons no?

If its a cracked sleeve and you have to resleeve, then who cares how badly the pistons are mangled. You're not going to get a block sleeved and then run stock pistons in it...

Do a compression test...until then you'll never know what the problem is...

That's not going to help you any...what's done is done. First thing tomorrow, run a compression/leak down test and see what kind of damage you have. It could be a lot better than you think. IF it is just the head lifting, you're not too screwed...if it is the sleeves, then you find a cheap shortblock and swap them out.

You're asking a lot from a stock block and eventually, they give up...Breaking parts is just a part of the game. I'm waiting until my little GSR gives up

do a compression/leakdown test, and/or pull the head.

im thinking head gasket. refill it with coolant and see how it is and if it still blows smoke then pull the head off and see what happen, you have to pull it out regardless if it over heats.
