Default 10:1 on a d16y8 12psi

yes, my buddy just bought 10:1 pistons for her d16y8. she'll be running 12psi for the meantime and will be boosting low 20's or is planning on it, once standalone is accomplished. what do you guys think of 10:1 pistons in a d16? you think this motor is going to be getting too hot under 10-12psi of boost?

Is it sleeved? Hopefully will be well tuned

I'm sure it will be badass but I'd be sweating that compression with a street car.

nope, not resleeved, i'm kind of skeptical though..that's a pretty damn high compression rato for a y8

im not the only one that bought 10:1 comp pistons to go turbo . is the car goin to be a street/strip car or just a strip car ? i didnt mind goin w/ 10:1 comp since everything will be fully built and have an aftermarket fuel managment . 10:1 sounds crazy for a sohc . how long till you get it running ? sounds interesting ? cant wait to see wat kinda times it can pull off....

if you tune it good you can do it. AFC hack=boom on that kind of compression. If you get a stand alone you will be in good shape. I would recommend resleeving if you want to boost 20's.....tuning or no tuning, I just dont think stock block could take that. 12 psi is realistic. Also, what kind of rods are you using?

d16 sleeves are only good for about 20psi...after that you will crack it. They also like to warp after a while with boost..even at low boost. Getting it sleeved is a good idea. And 10-12psi is possible on 10:1, although you are going to have to pull alot of timing...it depends on what octane you are running.

I recommend 9:1..it will give you an extra safety zone

I agree, that extra couple HP isnt going to be worth the cost of the extra tuning and possibly if neglected, new parts.

liam, i know she's going w/ your the AFC-hack for the time being, just to see how it responds...once she hits higher then stock boost standalone will be in the scenario.

Thats a scary mix. The problem with the AFC hack is it doesnt do anything for timing. You can retard the timing by turning back the dist...but it makes it run pretty bad...you can only go so far.

With a standalone you can do neat tricks to make it run right. But with the afc hack be very careful how much boost you run. With my ~9.2:1 engine in the hot day i cant run much more then 7 or 8 psi without getting minor detination. At nite time (when the air is cooler) i can increase boost to around 10-12psi with the hack and be OK.

It also really depends on the gas you run. If i had an unlimited supply of C16 race gas i would be running as much boost as my little engine would take all day long.

But 10:1 is going to make it hard...and even harder if you can only get 91 octane. If you know you are going turbo...use turbo pistons or invest in a standalone. Singing the "another one bites the dust" song sucks...hehe
