Default @ 150mph gauge lights come/car dies

Was recently going 150 + mph with my 99 ls. It has the greddy 16G turbo kit, with AEM fuel management and what not. I am only boosting 8PSI on stock block. Well I held 150 for about 20sec when the car started to slow itself down. I saw the gauge lights come on and the temp gauge start to climb so I shut the car off. I got it towed home. I popped the valve cover no water or oil in the cylinders, spark plugs had a green glaze on them, car turns over but very slow. Got it to back fire last night with the stock manifold on. This means its getting spark but why is it turning over so slow? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Green-metallic plugs? Turns over very slow? Sounds like you cooked the plugs, and possibly the crank, a rod or two, and maybe a piston or two. I'd also think the exhaust valves would be burnt nicely, since that's a lot of heat to an uncooled component. They make sodium-filled valves for a reason. I'd normally say it's a blown HG first, cept it didn't suck any water into the cylinders when it cooled from what you say. Long story short, something melted or warped.

8psi or not, it's still 150mph in a car designed to be aerodynamic up to 80-90mph.

green on plugs....what kind of fuel were you running? C12? any kind of fuel additive?

Basically what you didn't already know that all of us know is that you're 5th gear in your LS tranny is a VERY LONG gear. Not to mention it was not intended to be an "acceleration gear" So when you "load" you engine by accelerating in 5th you increase the chance of detonation/pre-ignition. You probably did something along the lines of this...and when you engine knocked...it retarded the **** out of your ignition timing...cuasing EGT's to rise...which translated into much more heat(not to mention your bearings getting beat on...which caused your oil temp to increase as well as your water temp. All this happened in 20 seconds. The slowness of your car you felt was most likely your engine crying and retarding ignition timing.(not sure if you have an ignition retard/knock detection/engine cycle)

Just my take on the matter.

150mph+ 20secs= hahaaahhaha.

first thing i would do is pull the Head and see how everything looks. cant really see what's going on by poppin the valve cover.

also seeing how this is an LS and u have really long gears it took u a WHILE to get up to that 150mph so u probably melted alot of stuff..

Sounds like I need a new bottom end. You know how when something like this happens you have that gut feeling that you're screwed but you have that hope that you're not. Keep up on the input though, maybe someone has an idea that wouldn't involve me replacing the block.

I think you blew the welds on your intake manifold actually. You'll have to get the mad scientist to come over and tear your engine down and take a look at the pistons you just fried. IM me, I think I can get Vin to give you his phone number. Next time double clutch instead of granny shifting into 5th...that's where you went wrong.

Supprisingly enough, it didn't take that long. I didn't time myself or anything. I think I hit about 90-100 in 4th. Yeah, pullin' off the head tonight. Thanks.

Got to tell me after it happened. I tuned it. I use emanage. Highway, really early in the morning. You know how there's that guy that gets next to you and really looks like his **** is hot, and you know damn well you shouldn't down shift and go for it. I was sucked into it. I sware I didn't want to do it. Wish me luck the head comes off tonight. I'll try to spin the crank, if it is warped it should be really tough to spin.

says who?

maybe if its not correctly tuned it might be a no no, but if it is, you can do 5th gears pulls all you want, especially if the motor is built to take the high revs.

check the crank main bearing while the block is in the car dude,
just un hook the oil pan, the pickup, the crank girdle and, get a look at your main bearing.

your engine is probablyl sizing on the crank, since it came to a oil starvation in pressure caused by the high temp and the blow off point of your oil being way depassed.

long stories short : your oil was too Hot, the oil pump couldn't pump it to normal pressure since it was too liquid... it then give a chance to an impurity from the crank to hook with a bearing and spin it. This cause a big loss in oil pressure.

well, I'd check the main bearing and the compression/ leak down before you pull the head... in the process though, you must have cooked a few bearing, prolly a few valves maybe the theird piston depending on how rich you where running...

enough said.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't green on the spark plugs mean a blown headgasket and coolant is getting into the cylinder?

no coolant burn white,
green usually mean fuel additive, especially if it's a kind of glaze on the plugs....

And bTW I needed to come back to say that I second Mase post:
FIFT GEAR PULL ARE POSSIBLE., even on the uber long LS tranny, just need high speed timing, enough fuel, a few tweak that mase could prolly explain if he want...
