One of the salesmen at the speedshop i go through installed it on his talon. the basemap if you wanna call it, he did himself. he said he just played around with it and got the car running good. then when he got the car running good he took it to our tuner and the guy tuned it for boost in like 45 minutes. only problem is i don't have a labtop so i can drive around and get a basemap going. the biggest thing is the price for me. i may spend a lot less time on the dyno with vi-pec but 1600 for tuning software for me is a bit much. plus the car is not a race car, it's just a street car. it's also only going to be pushing 350 whp.

Hondata, Neptune, or Ectune will all work well for your application. Use whichever one your tuner is more comfortable with.

okay where would be the best place to get one of those? I'm looking at a complete kit. Chipped ecu with hondata/neptune/ectune/crome already installed, along with the proper cables. I hate electrical and i want to get a kit so i don't have to do any soldering, just plug it in and get it tuned.

I couldn't agree more with this statement.
Use what your tuner recommends. The last thing you want is your tuner struggling to use a software they are unfamiliar with.

If you go to an authorized Neptune/eCtune dealer, which I don't think there are any in your area, b/c there are only like 5 neptune dealers and 6 eCtune dealers in all of canada, all of which are in the eastern part of canada, you wouldn't need to buy ANY hardware, just pay a one-time license fee and have a chipped obd1 ecu and pay the tuners tuning fee, but that doesn't seem to be a feasable solution for you.

If I had to choose between hondata/neptune/eCtune/Crome for buying all the DIY hardware and an ecu and still have to pay someone to tune it, i'd personally use the Neptune RTP board, it comes in at the cheapest option ($350 US off the HRtuning site) and you can pick up a chipped p28 for like $150 CDN, if not cheaper, locally. I'm sure whoever is doing the tuning can install the RTP board, i've done a couple and its really easy, especially if the ecu is chipped already.

The hondata S300 requires different chipping than your average obd1 honda ecu, but if you want to buy the package already setup and everything that won't be an issue. However, support will be an issue. Chances are, if your tuner is unfamiliar with the software he will have questions/concerns. JR (neptune) and Calvin (eCtune) both have incredible tech support and amazing software to use. I like how everything is done via 1 USB cable with the Neptune RTP and personally found the Neptune system ran my car the best (of crome/neptune/hondata/eCtune) and was the easiest to use.

The Canadian dollar kinda sucks right now, so if you can buy something in Canada you could save some $$$ that way too, there are a few Neptune dealers in Canada that can help you out.

I am very unfamiliar with the whole chipping of an ECU and also installing hardware. My tuner is well known all across western canada and he said he can do both crome and hondata with no problem. the more and more people keep telling me i gotta get my ecu chipped and then get the board installed, the more i'm leaning towards Vi-Pec. The reason as to why is because i hate wiring and chipping an ecu and installing a board seems like way too much work and could get very complicated fast. As far at the vi-pec goes, i order it, i plug it in and i start playing with it. once i get the A/F good and idle good, i drive the car to my tuner and get it tuned for boost. I was really considering hondata, but like i said, i hate wiring and i'm running out of time. i need the car out of my garage and running in a month and a half.

seems your tuner is familiar with the vipec ecu. If thats the case, just go for the vipec. Nothing beats a tuner who is familiar with the system. And vipec distributors will be good. They will know the system well and give you excellent service. This is how they work.

It may cost alittle more initially, but you're getting a much better ecu. Just buy that and move on. You'll be a cut above the rest.

I find hondata quite pricey afterall. I mean, its meant to be more affordable, but when you bundle up everything required to get it working plus tuning, its not that cheap really.

I vote Vipec. next time if you change your car, just swap it over, the V44 can be wired up to just any car out there. (Less E-throttle)

Yeah exactly. Everyone say's hondata is cheaper, but if you look at it more in the long run, it isn't. By the time you get the ECU chipped and get s300 installed and then tuned, it will probabally be more than Vi-Pec. My speedshop is willing to give me the Vi-Pec V44 with the proper cables and software for $1600 including shipped, and he said only two hours max to tune the car. If it takes any longer he will pay for the rest.

Just a quick question suzikii. Have you used the Vi-Pec system before? Or have been in a car that used it?

i have used the Autronic SM4 on my car and tuned it myself and it was a breeze. Vi-pec is a spinoff from autronic with some of the key people in it. I'm fitting the V88 on my S2k next. I have 100% confidence this ecu will be a good investment.

BTW, i'm using the s300 on my crx which gave me problems no end. This is just my experience, i'm sure there are many others who never encountered any problem with the S300, but my advice is to just log onto their forum and you will know exactly what i mean.

The V44 is the way forward.

you tuned your vi-pec yourself? i know pretty much anyone can tune the car without boost without too much trouble. but the question is, did you tune the car for boost also? i was recommended to take that to a professional tuner and a dyno to get it tuned for boost properly. even using the auto tune feature.

the dealer who sells you the vipec ecu should do the installation and tuning for you. Leave it to the professionals. He will know exactly what to do with your ecu in terms of setup and calibration. Saves you time and headache. Ignition timing is impossible to tune without a load holding dyno. Leave it to him and let him tune it on an eddycurrent dyno like the dyno dynamics or the dynopack. Good luck!
