Default VAFCs worth it?

So i was thinking of buying a used VAFC2, it's to run a D15B VTEC head on my 89 Hatch. It's cheaper than buying an ECU+Jumper Harness+Distributor.... People are saying that they are crap and are not worth but give no reason for it. I'm thinking it's just a bandwagon of people who have never owned, seen, or touched a VAFC. Can some of you give me reasons why these are Crap/Useless? I just want it for the VTEC controller, DO NOT plan to edit Fuel/Air... THanks!

If you were OG you would hook it up to a switch so you can kick hella Vtec through the whole power band . Even better you could hook it up to your winshield wipers and have mad b15 vtec and a clean winshield.

VAFCs are good. An Apexi unit worked well on a friend's S2000. When I ran my "mini me" swap years ago, I used a Spoon VTEC contoller. It has a simple **** that controls the VTEC engagement. You can turn it down for quicker response or all the way up to turn VTEC almost off to cruise at highway speeds. I got almost 50 mpg on mine on the highway with the controller turned all the way up.

people generally don't like piggyback because it's not as tunable as standalone ECU setups. also, some people have to reset their router often since some people's ECUs compensate over time for the changes that the piggyback makes.
i used to reset my ecu every few weeks for this problem, but after messing with my ignition timing, my car drives fine. and yes i have a VAFC2 in my car. i didn't change the vtec point but it has some tuning on it in the 4k+ rpm.

Tuned my VAFC2 (note, I did have cams, etc), went from 179 whp to 194 whp from tuning. Its not AEM EMS, but its not bad for budget tune.

Gotta have some mods and hit the dyno - dont just buy it to buy it.

Absolute truth and the classic ricer mentality....they just buy it cuz it looks cool. I'm going another direction with my car and no longer have need for my VAFC...hence...I'm selling it.

So, you want a VAFC so you can move your VTEC engagement around at will with no rhyme or reason as to where you're making it engage? k.
