Strange engine light/ECU problem
Hello from Scotland. I dont post much on here but am on loads to read up on stuff.
I have a slight problem. Hopefully someone can help
I have been chipping a few ECU's for people recently. Mainly P28's on friends cars etc.
I done around 8 so far without any problems. I test them in my OBD1 CRX. (B18)
I usually plug the ECU in, check for codes, if all is ok, I start it up and recheck. I have had codes come up before, like code 36 or the odd 02 code on other ECU's.
The last 2 i chipped, When i plug them in, I dont get a CEL light unless i short the connector. When i do, the light is solid. Once the connector is "unshorted" the light goes out.
I have also tried with a standard ECU and i have the same problem. So 3 ECU's in total.
I tried unplugging my 02 sensor to "fake a code" but i still get a solid light, only when the connector is jumped.
I CAN rev past 4k but idle is higher as normal.
I just use stock roms which i burn to chips, and they usually work no problem, and I am removing checksum etc.
Any ideas???? Been searching ages but cant find much relevant.
I am worried when i plug them in my car it is damaging the ECU's?
Thanks
Scott

According to my Honda shop manual a solid CEL with the SCS connector shorted, with the engine not running, means that there are no Diagnostic Trouble Codes stored in the ECUs memory. Usually means that the ECU is good to go!
