I bought my project car and it came with a spare ecu. The ecu is not good I am guessing chip maybe bad or something but my plan is to boost the engine in the car so I am wondering if I would be able to use this spare ecu even though it went bad.

You would need to open it up and see what has or has not been done to it. Check to see if there is any visual damage to the board or it's components. That will determine if it can be fixed or if there is anythign wrong with it.
