smanager compatable with moates??
The answer is no. Nothing else is free besides crome which isn't free to use with the ostrich anyhow.
You get what you pay for when it comes to engine management. Do your self a favor, don't buy crome pro unless you want to buy something that hasn't been updated in several years.

If you're not familiar with computer programming or digital electronics, it's well worth your time and money to get Neptune or ECTune for your Ostrich. I prefer Neptune, but they're both quality programs. I typically don't recommend Crome unless you understand how to work with bugs and/or have tuned motors before. Don't get it... you've been warned.
Can't always blame the software, there are plenty of cars out there running just fine tuned with Crome. I would question the tuners experience using the software or the health of the engine and sensors first.
Health of my engine is a go. Compression tests have checked out. New timing belt and tensioners, water pump, fuel filter, fuel pump, injectors, all kinds of sensors you can think of, all new ignition to include plugs, OEM Honda wires and cap/rotor and distributor. Air filter, yep. I'm trying to think because I know there is more but I can't recall right now. Just about every major gasket you can think of... no vacuum leaks. Etc etc.
Now it's starting to point towards the tuner.... or the software. Or maybe I can just blame Windows Vista. That OS sucks donkey *****.

Haha, yea. I'm a Mac guy myself. I know, let the flaming begin. But I can respect Windows XP at least if for nothing else but it's resilience I guess. It says something about your OS when many companies still use XP for all their computers. Either the new OS is buggy and they can't risk it, or it's too expensive to upgrade. Who knows. But I still see a lot more of XP then you typically should....
Windows 7 is a step in the right direction for sure though. But that's just because they're copying OS X
haha jk
I used to tune OpenECU open source free software on my WRX. It runs great on XP, not so much on Vista. Don't know if it's good to go on 7 yet. I do know it can run on Linux and OS X though

I have a G4 running Panther, Desktop PC running XP, Laptop w/XP and my garage computer is an old PII 400, running Win98. It works better than both my other Windows OS computers.....lol the G4 smokes them all with half the ram.
Last months release of the Crome 1.6 update works pretty good on my laptop with XP. It has always worked pretty much flawlessly on my Win98 garage computer.

So, Neptune is at the forefront of continued support and development right now? And Hondata is starting to die off? I only ask because it seems like every major tuning shop from CA to NY uses Hondata. If I ever move, I want to make sure that someone locally who is COMPETENT uses Neptune...
Hondata still develops as well. They just released their Coil Pack Retrofit kit and added support in the S300. Choose what you think is best for your situation.
Well, maybe others can chime on and help me choose what is best for my situation because I have absolutely no need for data logging, nitrous and boost control options, etc etc. I'll break it down really simple:
I have an intake. And a test-pipe in place of my catalytic converter. Oh, and I have a muffler. So I'm sure I have about 5 more hp than my car came with stock.
Surely I don't need $800 worth of software and tuning hardware to get me running correctly? I don't plan on boosting my car in the future, EVER. I might get a H22 JDM motor if mine ever failed, but that's really about it. I can't ever really up the CR because of the stupid FRM cylinders without major sleeving work, etc. So yea, I'm going to be staying stock for a long time. What is my best option?

What we mentioned before... getting a chip done by a tuner which eliminates the extra cost of the hardware/software combo if you don't plan to make changes yourself.
Right on. I gotcha. Maybe you didn't follow my other thread on this topic though.... because I am being told it is going to cost me anywhere from $500-600 easily to get me out the door tuned on Neptune by a local reputable tuner. There is no "one time license fee" thing you guys speak of. Well, there is. It's just not $100 like you guys said. They charge $175 for it. Then $75 to install. Then $350 to tune.
THREE. HUNDRED. FIFTY. DOLLARS. Just to tune a stock car. WOW.

I said a chip from a tuner, not NepTune. I did see your other thread. I agree you don't need $350 worth of tuning so... do what you can. Unfortunately it's up to the tuner what to charge. Good luck.

I have thought about it, however, my current build is non Honda EMS anyway.
