Default Question about high comp and tuning

I just got an integra with a jdm itr motor in it (b18c) they had 12:1 pistons put in and haven't gotten it tuned. Meanwhile, the car is having an issue. It'll start up fine, then when you put it in gear or reverse, you have to be on the throttle quite a bit to keep it from dying, and if it does die, it doesnt wanna start back up for a while afterward, it might for a second but you have to keep revving it and as soon as you stop it's dead again. I'm trying to figure out if i need to get a tune for the higher comp pistons, i cant find out how big of a jump you can make before having to change the timing. Also there are still stock injectors, idk if going bigger will solve the issue or not or if it needs a tune or if it's another issue and wanna narrow it down before i start wasting money on an iacv and injectors and such. Any help is appreciated

do you think that's the only reason it's running so badly though? It idles just fine, just doesn't wanna run while you're trying to get going and runs fine after you're out of first. Oh and I just changed the plugs and they smell horribly of fuel in all 4 cylinders. I'll post a pic of them in a second, hopefully that'll help

From the looks of those plugs your running a wee bit on the rich side. What ECU are you currently using?

The guy i got it from said it's had the issue since he got it so i cant be too sure. Also, he said it's a p28 with an itr basemap but he doesn't know anything else about it. It pulls just fine at all rpms through every gear though. I'm thinking it might be the ignition coil causing it to not get enough spark. Also, there was a bad plug wire that shocked the hell out of my room mate before I changed them which is also making me lean toward the coil. No CEL either. Does that sound about right or might it more likely be something else?

You need a tune regardless.

I figured I would but the point of this post is to help pinpoint the issue with the car so i can get it legal and drive it, not to figure out things I need that can wait.

You think running around on a stock computer/stock timing with 12:1 is safe? Muchless beating on it? Its a basemap. Doesn't always run good. Not only that, it could have some funky crap going on burned by bubs in his backyard. Based on your description, fuel is puddling due to over fueling. Take your car to a tuner after you have verified the engine is in time.

If you want answers then stop relying on the internet to spoon feed you answers and take it to a tuner to be looked at.

Verify timing (cam & ignition), set base idle. Check fuel pressure. Go over ignition & fuel systems and make sure everything is right. Then worry about the tune.

Otherwise you're wasting your money and the tuner's time.
