Icon2 pros/cons on disabling closed loop???

After I tune my turbo setup with a good basemap, what would be the benifits of activating closed loop? Does it have something to do with elv.change or air temp?? I have read that some are really happy and have been drivin years with open loop only. Doesn't closed loop just add fuel to the map to get it to stotch at part throttle? That would make the afr to rich and I would lose power. Or am I miss led?? Thanks for your help and don't tell me to look at pgmfi.com, this is a ecu tuning forum too.
