PID fuel control?
quick newbish question?
Why isn't fuel controlled with a PID loop. (proportional Integral Differential)
Why are there Tables That have to be tuned with a dyno and countless hours of practice and tuning.
MY guess is is that it is more reliable and cheaper to implement with look up tables. (cheap o2 sensor vs wide band o2 for every car. cheep 5$ microcontroller VS 45$ DSP type processor. Plus if the program crashes... your on the side of the road)
with all of the computing power available it just seems like some one would have implemented a simple solution where you set a few parameters, engine size, injector size, map or MAF # cyls add a hyper sensitive knock sensor + widband o2 (Maybe EGT) and it quickly 'learns' the engine it's controlling and tunes it's self.
I know I am WAYYYY over simplifying. But this Idea just hit me and I was wondering why?
