Hi everybody, first excuse me if I do not express myself perfectly in english, i'm french from canada.

IF I'M WRITING THIS POST, ITS BECAUSE IVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR 2 HOURS ABOUT P0131 AND NEVER FOUND ANY SOLUTION. You can sticky it if you want.. of put it in any troubleshooting article.


My car: 1999 Honda Civic SI (stock)

My situation: The check engine light came on... last month. P0135 (o2 sensor heater malfunction) ... So I decided to order a new o2 sensor from ebay (ntk, from japan (same as oem I think, for $70,new.)... dont worry its working FINE. I didnt have any choice but to strip the wires because my oem connector was not there...

WIRING:

on the ntk on the car

1-White Black/x
2-White Black/x
3-Gray White
4-Black Green


Now my problem is... I dont have the white wire on my car.. but a gray one instead... So I thought that it was the same as the white... So I wired it up and check engine light came on (p0131) (low voltage)... hopefully I borrowed an obd-reader from a friend of mine for all night long.. My first reflection was that the ecu didnt give me the p0131 on the first sensor because p0135 came on before and ecu stopped searching other codes since it detected the heater malfunction. As the first o2 sensor was not wired fine.. the ecu received false signal all the time without even knowing it... ? ... anyway.. after 3 hours testing a bunch of used o2 sensor p0131 came on everytime.. so I decided to re-cut the wires and to strip them again.


The solution(such stupid.....):

At this moment... I saw that inside the gray wire, the white one was present, with a kind of skinny wiring between the 2 wires (the ground I think)... and this skinny layer of wiring was all mixed up with the white wire...... so just take the little layer of ground wire, cut it away and just plug the white one into the gray wire of the new o2 sensor ... and check engine never came on again (1 hour of driving with the obd reader)

If you still have the oem connector and never stripped any wire and you have p0131, I would suggest you to strip them and plug them like I described.

i had the same problem and just pulled out the 02 sensor and cleaned it up on wire wheel and put it back in and cleared the CEL and it never came on again.

 

I have a 99 Civic Lx and have changed the o2 sensor and get the P0131 low voltagw code still...
