Default OBD2a-OBD2b?

I have 2000 civic dx with a 97 spec JDM ITR engine and ecu... I had to use a conversion harness for the plugs to match the ecu...

I'm having so engine trouble and want to connect a obd2 scanner, but when I connect it, it's unable to connect to the ECU... Does the conversion harness have something to do with the scanner not being unable to connect to the ecu? Is there anything I can do for the scanner to connect?

I'm a noob to all this, as this is my 1st swap and am doing it all by myself, so any info would be greatly appreciated...

Obd1 ecus don't communicate with obd2 scanners.

To check your codes, read the information on http://www.phearable.net/tech

I dont think they can communicate with jdm ecus can they?
I remember having connectivity issues with my old 98 jdm itr swap and our us spec obd2 readers...
maybe someone can clarify?

You could try another (us spec) obd2a ecu to see if the tester can read it..
If the tester communicates, then you know its something with the jdm spec ecu that cant...

You can still check the codes using the 2 wire service connector... Read the information posted on the website.
