Default New and need advice

I'm new to wanting to build Hondas I have had 97 accord for about 2 and a half years and just finally got most of the kinks worked out where it's never been cared for, I was considering giving it some power, except I don't know good brands for these kind of cars, my usual performance sites don't carry much for Hondas. Any suggestions on where to get parts and where to begin my project?

What are your goals and what is your budget?

There are quite a few places that sell Honda aftermarket parts. Where and what brands really depends on what you are looking to do and how much, or how little, you want to spend.

My goal is high speeds good mileage still family safe and low budget. I want good quality so won't be an all at once project, just piece by piece little at a time, what do you recommend?

You need to rethink your priorities. None of those words belong in the same sentence.

Hard but not impossible as long as its driven right when kids are in the car it will be fine even with upgrades, and as far as power and mileage go they can go together

Look I saw someone say on HT one time saying '' fast'' ''reliable'' ''cheap'' choose 2 of the 3 and ur car won't be the 3rd. Going faster=dropping money. so take your time on your build..... Being fuel economic will need very good tuning in ur lower rpms so also means putting down some more money which you have to get your car tuned after installing relatively medium mods to your car.... Being family safe, you can make a 500hp car as safe as you drive it.

Right and by cheap I meant not overpaying for the product. I don't wanna spend 100 on a 50 part

Start with basic maintenance, tunup and new gaskets and seals, timing blets and water pump. Then look at brakes and suspension replacement/upgrades. The stock engine you have in your car will not go any faster than it does now without spending money on internals.. ie camshaft & pistons. An intake, header and exhaust won't wake het up much at all. It will sound like you gained power but really only makes you hold your foot to the floor longer, = less MPG!

Most people who are looking for reliability and power in there Accord would do a straight up H22A swap. For the price, you get a reliable OEM built engine with 180-200hp that fits into the Accord rather easily.

So where can I get the internals? I've looked online and the better known brands don't make them for my car

Try Race Engineering.com and or Bisimoto.com

Some brands are Wiseco (Pistons), Arias (Pistons), CP (pistons), Crower (Rods), Carrillo (Rods), Eagle (rods), Pauter (Rods), Darton (Cylinder sleeves), Ferrea (valves & valve train), Delta Cams, Web Cams, Bisimoto (Cams, Pistons, Rods, Valves & Valve trains).

What trim Accord do you have? F22B1 VTEC or F22B2 Non VTEC?

With the F22B2 you can use engine parts for any 90-97 F22 engine. The only difference is in the size of the intake valve diameter. The F22B2 has 32mm intake vales where the F22A and F22B1 all have 34mm valves. If you are looking to go that far it wouldn't take much for a shop to take the F22B2 out to 34mm.

Get yourself a Subaru WRX STI. Fast, reliable, still good on mileage, family safe, and their won't be a budget.

how you gonna come to Honda-tech and tell the op to get a subaru? lol

to the op: i am finishing up my 95 accord. i got most of my parts from bisimoto and Spoolin performance. i did a 5 lug swap, and got most of those parts from junk yards. is there anything in particular you're looking to buy? maybe i can point you in the right direction. BTW, stay away from ebay. too many half-*** and fake parts

Thanks for the support, Josh!

There is a lot available for your project and I can gladly help you out. Just like GhostAccord asked, budget and goals are very important when it comes to beginning a build. I recommend always starting with the end in mind by doing it right the first time, rather than spending money twice.

save up and do this!

Doing internals and everything else mentioned requires tuning and testing and will not give you any fuel economy. The car will end up as a project and it will no longer even see family usage.

Since the car is not cared for as it is...do basic maintenance stuff to keep it running and reliable. Once you saved enough for an H22 Swap (basically $1600-$2600), Simply go over the motor and swap it in retaining everything you had prior like power steering, a/c etc...
