I purchased a "used" Demon board with Neptune locally. Locally being
South Africa. I was told that it should be a version 2, but the seller wasn't
clued up enough to tell the difference.
Apparently, this board was purchased from Xenocron around 2 years ago,
then installed in a dodgy EG 180i non-vtec ecu locally. Consequently, it
never worked, & basically needed a proper socketed ecu to be fitted into to
work correctly, but is otherwise perfect. I was told the local ecu's wont work.
The confusion comes in that I was sent this pic by the sellers tuner, & it
seems to be a version1 from 2009. Am I missing something here?
The guy who was involved in bringing it into the country is a reliable source,
& he confirms the sellers story that it is indeed roughly 2 years old.
The price is great at $250 including an adapter harness, but what do I lose
between version1 & version2?
Most important, how is it possible that the claim is a 2 year old version2
board, but the pic tells a different story?
Thats not the original rtp board, newer than those. Thats a demon 1. Demon 2s have no battery.
Check out moates.net
For tuning, any of the demons are OK. v2 has no battery, and slightly better design but same tuning features and capabilities
Not the original, as in, not the older/oldest version, but a newer, although not the newest version (2)?

Lol, I know, but what threw me off was the sellers claim that it is a version2, and under 2 years old, although he was very unsure about the version, but certain about the age, or rather, the time frame within which it was purchased. It didn't make sense, considering the date on that board, 2009. I looked at the HRTuning & Xenecron site, & the timings sort of tied up from an age of the board perspective. The pic of the board on the site reads 2013 I think, so I figured roughly 2 years old, so if the one I'm buying is under 2 years old, then it should be v2, which it obviously isn't.
But Xenocron to the rescue. I mailed them & support mailed back to confirmed that the V2 was only released in March of this year, so the fact that it is a V1.2, makes it legit, & no funny business. Seller isn't that sort of guy anyway.

Another great reason to tune with Neptune - The software continues to be supported on older hardware instead of forcing you into purchasing a newer system.
As mentioned, that is the original version 1 board. It works excellent, there's no need to upgrade to the Demon 2 board unless for some reason it gets damaged.
