Icon2 Need help; completely lost.

So, I need some advice and a means of figuring out what the hell the do. I have a '97 Honda Accord LX with 194k miles. It's recently been acting really weird. As of yesterday, it's begun a rough idle where it'll rev to nearly 3,000 rpms, then drop down to below 1,000 multiple times. When I try to stop, I can feel the car straining to move forward and it's starting to pull forward slightly, too. I've been reading some forums and I think it might be the IAC valve or a vacuum hose. I'm not well versed in cars at all and have next to no idea as to what I need to do. I also heard it could be my fuel injector? I'm not sure, truthfully. Any opinions on what I need to do? I seriously need help.

I'm not a mod, but I posted something like this in the Accord forum for you.

Here's a link: https://honda-tech.com/forums/showth...5#post49220065

Should be able to find more help with your model there. This is mostly engine tuning and such. More along the lines of tuning here.

more than likely a vacuum leak. check to make sure all vacuum hoses connecting to the intake manifold are still connected, and listen for any hissing in that area as well as that would indicate a leak. replace any hoses you find to be leaking.
also make sure the coolant is topped off, as the fast idle valve is a separate idle valve (different than the IAC) and operates off coolant temp. if coolant is low, sometimes the FIV won't work properly.

Vacuum leaks are a universal problem. You can get hose from the autoparts store for very cheap. $10 and you can redo all your hoses. I'd do that if you are worried about a leak. The hoses do go bad since it is in the engine bay. Just do one and a time and don't get anything mixed up.

The FITV can adjusted some what. Maybe that is your issue. The IACV could need some looking at also. Check my signature for some links. Should help you out! And maybe the accord guys will be able to help you too. I'm not well versed in the accord motors, I mostly focus on the EF civics since that's what I have.

Take off your intake piping, put your hand over your throttle body to block the air flow. If the engine doesn't stall you will hear where the leak is coming from.

If no air leak check the fitv. Take it apart the plunger usually backs out.

...Or just remove it and plate the hole. It's useless anyway.
