Default LS vtec timming.... HELLPPPP!!!!!!

I have a b16 head on a b18a1 block. Has skunk2 cam gears. The car starts but idles around 2800 rpms and smokes a little. Nothing is wrong with the motor and im positive. A little oil is coming out the exaught in specs but not much at all. Im pretty such its the timming. I dont have any timing belt covers or anything and im stumped. Could someone put in some input?

sounds like to me a you have a worn ring, or burnt piston, or a wore out block

if this a fresh build? if so the rings could have not seated yet as well

Put a lower timing belt cover on it and time it properly.

being its a fresh build I would see your rings have not seated fully yet, let the motor break in for about 500 miles and then change your oil.
also rotate your number 1 pistion to TDC and confirm that your cam gear marks are lined up as well. once the is done confirm that your running 16 degree of ingintion timing

Okay so i took my motor apart last night and relized there is no valve cover gasket but that is not causing the problem. The cam gears are lined up so the timing is on. What else could it be? causing high idling and smoke. Could i be me using a p28 auto ecu on a 5 speed b16? i think so lol

i still dont have the timing cover but the cams are right but idk if its top dead center or 180 degrees out so if your standing at the front of the car and turn the crank to top dead center does the pistons come up to the middle or down to the middle. sorry if its confusing. im sorry.
