Default Interesting timing table

So a friend just got his car tuned recently by a very well known tuner. He had some complaints though and asked me to look it over. He sends me the map and this is what I see in the ignition map.

Just wondering what everyone thinks about this. It runs decently according to my friend but has a dip in power right around 3.5k and then picks back up.

1. You need to post the complete engine setup.
2. You need to post the complete calibration.
3. Ignition values mean nothing if the ignition timing wasn't properly synced.

The base timing of 30 degrees doesn't make much sense.

Didn't really want to post too much info regarding the setup/tune because the tuner is a sponsor on here.

Its a stock h23a1, 16g turbo, 450cc injectors. Nothing fancy. I'm not sure if the timing was synced or not.

I'm ONLY wanting to know why on earth anyone would do what he did in the vac/low rpm area. Synced or not, it doesn't seem right at all.

That tables a little out of the norm but not really that crazy. Theres nothing that says you cant run that much timing in the idle portion of the map. Alot of v8 stuff has that kinda of ign timing down low. Lots of cars with locked dizzys. More timing will idle the engine faster(typically to point), while pulling timing away with slow it down.

The big section of 5 degress could be that the car wanted to idle high, and pulling a bunch of timing would help settle the car down.

I owned a boosted h22 eg with a S2 intake manifold that i could only fit a block off plate to cover the IACV holes. I used the throttle set screw on the Tb to crack the throttle plate so the engine would get enough air so it wouldnt die during crank, warmup, and decel, but it wanted to idle real high, so i pulled a bunch of timing in the areas where the car was idling high to get the engine to settle where i wanted it. Car started and idled beautifully and never once died during decel. That was back in the day with crappy precision 1000's tuned on shiney.

Sounds like the car had some issues and the tuner made it work. Gotta think outside the box sometimes.

I'm curious, who was the tuner, if you dont want to post it, please Pm it to me.
