ignition timing help!!!!please :P

Default ignition timing help!!!!please :P

ok so my problem is with my distrib fully advanced my ignition timing is at 14 degrees. I just checked my timing belt alignment and it seems okay. i dont know what else to do other then grind out the holes on my distrib.


at first i thought my t-belt was off but check the diagram it looks correct actually.
any help will be greatly appreciated thanks!!!!

what are you asking? 14 degrees on the dizzy is considered retarding the timing.

Very carefully put a long skinny screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole and rotate the engine in the correct direction until the screwdriver is all the way up, this will be TDC and of course it needs to be on the compression stroke (not the exhaust stroke) and then double check all the timing marks. This means the crank shaft too. Is your timing 14 degrees BTDC or ATDC.

The pic is a bad angle, I think the timing is good via the visual mode, now go to the mechanical mode as I mentioned above.

The cam gear keyway or alignment pin can be damaged, the same for the crank keyway or the harmonic balancer could be damaged making your visual timing marks useless.

d15z1 look at the diagram its correct


@ duane tahts a good point.


FYI i drilled my distrib and i got it to 16 tdc and it pulled way harder )

to bad 1 week later i blew head gasket
