Default Help with crome?

Hey all, don't know much about getting ecu ready to tune so please bare with me.

I've been reading up on what I need to run crome and I think I have a basic idea, but would like to run it by all of you before I start buying parts.

My engine setup:
GSR rods/crank/head/cams/block
USDM Type R pistons
Supertech dual valve springs
Blox high compression valves
Blox IM
Skunk2 throttle body
Exedy clutch and lightweight flywheel
Straightpiped exhaust
some other odds and ends that I'm probably forgetting about

I plan on adding Skunk2 Pro1+ cams in the future but want to get this going first.

As for the ecu, I have a 98 GSR ecu (obd2a) that I used to run the engine with when it was stock (then the body got totalled so i built the engine to what i stated above and now its in a 94 civic coupe) i also have an obd1 P06 that came with the shell i swapped the engine into

So now for my real question, from what I gather I'll need an obd1 ecu to run crome, but the p06 is non vtec so here's what i'm thinking

P06 ecu
vtec conversion kit
ZIF socket
Ostrich 2.0
crome pro
Wideband O2

Any suggestions on what O2 to get for realtime datalogging on crome? Anything else I missed (like wires, chips etc?)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Since you have to buy the emulator and Hulog (required to datalog with CROME (or at least SOME type of datalogger)) you would be MUCH better serviced by spending a little more and just buying a NepTune license and Demon RTP board.

As far as wideband the AEM is a decent cheaper alternative. There are many options though.

So if I went the NepTune/Demon rtp rout is all I'd need:

Neptune/Demon package
ZIF socket
Wideband
?

I haven't really checked into Neptune much at all, what are the major benefits vs crome? Any drawbacks?

Nailed it. I will explain a little bit more though.

Crome is a pain in the butt, honestly it is. It is free, that's the only perk in my humble opinion. I did use it, and I don't like it.

Neptune RTP Demon is where it's at. Used $300 or so, new $400. It comes with the hardware and it super easy to isntall. It has excellent customer service and the software is flawless. It also does datalogging, which you haven't thought about yet. Crome free does not do datalogging. And any free datalogging software sucks. I've used them all. Nothing but issues, corrupt files, ect. Neptune also has a million different features that Crome doesn't have. Including anti-theft, which no one really talks about. But it's one of my favorite features.

Wideband, I will suggest what I have. AEM UEGO from Amazon is $160 shipped to your door all day every day. I found a deal for a bit less on amazon too, well worth it. Very funtional and the O2 sensor is easy to find if you need to replace it.

The P06 can be converted and chipped. You need the conversion kit though. Neptune comes with a chip kit, so keep that in mind. It's really easy to do and anyone you buy the conversion kit from should have a tutorial on their webpage. I don't use a ZIF socket personally. You need a low profile one and if you go with Neptune you will never use it. You just plug it in and forget about it.

I suggest Neptune+AEM wideband. Should be $550 or so if you go with new parts.

Neptune and Hondata are the big players, most people will agree. They share some features and some are unique. But they are both better than the Ostrich+Hulog set up. It's much easier if you are a first time tuner. I went down this road not too long ago. Actually gave up tuning with Crome and sold my stuff, took the turbo off the car, and saved up for Neptune. It's well worth it.

No ZIF socket. A chip kit is included in the kit.

See the website. You can download the software for free to check it out.

Perfect, thanks guys! I really appreciate the help

So just to reiterate what I'd need for the P06 is
Vtec conversion
Neptune/Demon package
Wideband

And that's it? Just those 3 things?

Yup. It's that easy. Of course it will take some wiring/soldering to get it all in place. The AEM wideband comes with the O2 bung to weld to your exhaust too. (I'm sure most include this)

I am glad that you have decided to ditch the CROME EMS as an option. You will be happy you did. I have CROME Dealer and even with that there are currently bugs that make it a MAJOR PITA to try to tune with. It seems NepTune owner actually enjoys what he does enough to keep on top of issues and respond quickly to questions you may have. Even Hondata doesn't have that kind of service...

By the way "HRTuning" is the man behind NepTune in case you need help with the system or process. I speak unbiased on all this as I have never purchased a Demon RTP or NepTune license before - only tuned on a NepTune EMS.

HRTuning - I take cash, money orders, heavy discounts, free parts, ect... PM me for payment.

If you do have questions visit the NepTune forum via our website or send an email in. Fastest way to get a response.
