For most Honda builds an EMS like the Haltech is a bit overboard. Add in the price and tuner availability. Those would be the factors as to why you don't see it much around here.

They are out there you just don't hear much about them. They have come out with some chassis specific units that are a bit lower in price. I still don't hear about many people running them on the streets.

If you were to visit a track you might see a few more Motec, Haltec and other high priced engine management systems. However, for the most part Honda tuners tend to stick with the OEM OBD1 ECU tuning options, AEM or K-Pro.

haltech doesnt seem even as close to expensive as motec and seems pretty user friendly

What unit where you looking at specifically?

Maybe not as much as a Motec. However, $1900 for the PS1000 Patch Loom Kit - Honda OBD-1 Haltech unit is a bit more than other options that do the same job.

I'm a big fan of Haltech, we used it on my school's FSAE car. I'd use it again if I was to go down that road with one of my Hondas, especially if I was looking at converting to coil on plug.

I think one of the main reasons you don't see it much is simply because it's so easy to go with one of the simpler NepTune/Hondata/etc options, and it gets the job done (and plenty more) for < 1/4 the price of a full EMS. The learning curve is also much less steep since you're not looking at a full open format system like you are with Haltech et al., where you can't just plug in, load a base map, and start tuning... especially for the b-series.
