Default ecu chipping specs

for the first time i had my ecu chipped i thought that if i had vtec crossover at a much earlier rpm it would make a much difference in power and torque. but looking at other peoples vids and racing against stock ecu's i think i'vee mabe a mistake there. so i dont know, do you guys think it's best to have vtec crossover a bit lower than original oem standards or higher?

VTEC engagement should be determined based on where your engine setup reacts the best. If your not going to have it tuned or if your engine is stock. Then I would suggest the stock VTEC engagement point would be your best bet. If you are going to have it tuned. The tuner will know exactly where to set it to give you the best performance.

What we have found from dyno tuning hundreds of cars is that setting vtec too low can cause a power dip to where you actually loose power until the vtec cam profile becomes efficient. For example, setting vtec at 4500 rpms on a stock usdm b16 with intake/header exhaust will actually cause a power dip etc.

What a lot of people don't understand is that you don't want to feel vtec. You want it to be the smoothest transition between the two cam profiles so that you are always making maximum power throughout the rpm range. A lot of customer's think that if they can "feel" vtec POP they are making more power... This is not the case.

The best bet is to have the car dyno tuned by an experienced honda/acura tuner or ask for advice from whom ever you are ordering your ecu/chip setup from etc.
