Icon2 Ecu back from Evans tuning

Here is the story..

I had a P28 with crome on it. I wanted to get hondata with boost control so I sent it to Evans tuning to get it done. They called and said they couldnt use my ecu because it already had crome on it.
So I ended up buying one from them. The guy stated it would be a P28 that they will use so I was like cool, perfect.. I just got my hondata back and there is no numbers on the ECU, No sticker above the pins. I can't tell if it's a P28 or they just gave me a P06.. Ontop of that they sent me a hella janky looking ECU (IMO). You would figure after droping $750.00 with them they would atleast take care of the Rust on it..

Any ways my question is. Is there a way I can tell if it actually is a P28 or something else?

Pic- I couldnt get a good shot of above the pins.

If started out as a p06 or not, if they added the correct components, it does not matter.

Yeah, it is hard to find a 1992-1995 ECU that looks good from the outside. As long as it works, it does not matter right

Unless you powdercoat them :p

Thats very true as long as it works properly I will be happy. I won't find out for another one and a half months soo I guesse I will just email them tomorrow and make sure they added Vtec components.

Those ecu's are sexy. I'm gonna clean up the one I got but it still is a little shity that a 750$ purchase won't get you atleast a cleaned up ecu.

I go through a ton of ecus a month and to come across one that has a perfect condition case is getting more rare as the years go on. I am just happy if half of them are in working condition anymore. They are either molested by someone who doesn't know what they are doing OR they had a capacitor take a **** that ends up screwing up the board.

If you aren't happy with the way the ecu looks just take a wire wheel to the side of the case and paint the lid.

Seriously, Why didn't you just talk to them about the issue at hand. As others have said it is difficult to find clean ecus that are 14-17yrs old! You can clean most of that off or sand it down and paint it.

they could of used ur ecu they just wanted to keep it and yes no one would peel p28 stickers off an ecu depreciates the value the only reason you pull a sticker off is to hide something like a p06 sticker and yes for 750 i would expect a shiny *** case and a real p28 i would not spend 569 on a s300 to just put it on a p06 i bought the best so i expect the best like a real p28

I'm sorry, but no he wasn't scammed. I won't desolder someone else's work either once the ECU has been chipped. Who knows how well the install was done. That leaves the possibility of problems which means I would have to replace the ECU if it didn't work afterwards. Once you get burned in this fashion, you're likely to never offer it as an option again. On top of that, he can sell his other ECU just fine and knows it's working as is.

True, I used to solder ecu's for people too, but if they brought one to me that was already worked on, I stray away from that, for my own liability. You never know what someone else has done to it already.

I went with a HandCommand P28, it came in a shiny powder-coated red casing. $185 for the ecu, $495 for the Hondata..
