Default ECM question

Buddy has a pr4 ecm thats fried. i have a p06 virgin that i no longer need. are the maps close enough for a p06 to run a B18a1? i no longer have my tuning programs on this computer to look at the base maps to see how close they are. any wisdom?

1.5 L D-series ECU in a 1.8 L B-series: that's a big no.

i wasnt 100% sure. its not like a pr4 is a HyPo ecm. iirc when i was tuning mine the p28 map wasnt far off from the p72. but i could be wrong, its been a while. was just trying to help a friend if it would be close enough to run till he chipped it or bought a new computer

Considering that the P06 is non VTEC and the engine is VTEC. It's not going to run all that well in the higher rpm ranges even if the maps were close..

How long would it be until he chipped it or bought a new computer? My guess is that if it seemed to run ok. He would be more apt to run it for longer and that is where the damage can start to show. What might seem to run OK at first may be too rich or too lean at critical points. Also the timing could be off just enough that prolonged use could be detrimental.

What methods are you using to monitor the engines operation? Do you/your buddy have any way to monitor the engine AFR/EGT after you do the switch?

they are both non vtec, but no, on his car, we do not have a way to monitor afr/egt.

Ooops my bad... I thought that I read B18C..... Probably because that seems to be the engine anyone ever talks about....

He would probably be ok with running the P06 on the B18A1 for a little bit. The engine specs are pretty similar aside from the 0.3ℓ displacement difference.

well, i was basically just tryin to help him out, money got real tight for him, and i have the p06 sittin around(i had it for a back-up if my chipped p28 gave me issues). a new pr4 is only $60 from autozone, but by my logic, if a fix can be had for $25, why not, you know?
