So over the weekend, I decided that I give my buddy a hand on trying to get his turbo IS300 to start. The whole car has been a headache from day one. So I asked him what kind of Engine Management System was he running, and did the company 'DEZOD' give him a base tune. He says yes he has everything he needs. Then the subject came up, how do we interface the EMS to the laptop or what not. He said serial, since it's using a AEM EMS piggy backed off the stock ECU. Which should have been a red flag right there. Well he said he read up on all kind of **** saying that the tuners specially said not to use a USB to SERIAL connection/connector. I asked why, it's all zero's and one's i stated. Right? It shouldn't matter, it's doing the same exact thing.


Anyhow as defiant as he is, I showed up yesterday to help. Guess what was in the back seat of his Lexas Is300. Full on desktop computer with the LCD monitor chilling in the front seat. All I could do is hold back not to LULZ. Really I said to myself in my head. All this because we don't have a laptop with a standard serial connection, and all this because he doesn't want to use a USB 2 Serial connector. Oh man, wtf! Some people are just too damn funny.

So all in all with some dicking around last night we still couldn't get the AEM unit to produce a spark. The odd thing is when we hook up the stock ECU with out the piggy back harness it sparks. Oh well... I just thought the whole serial thing was too funny.

Oh and get this.... He paid something like 2 Grand to have the AEM EMS 30-1050 which is actually a honda box, and a piggy back harness which connects inline with the factory ECU. Man you gotta love Honda...
