Looks like a standard socket for an Atmel 256 or any other Eprom you'd use for Crome etc..

Helps to search - looks like someone did some rigging on that board... Read this and it should help you see the possibilities.

You don't need a ZIF Socket, it just makes it nicer.

The ZIF, or zero insertion force, sockets make it easier to remove and instal chips without bending or breaking the contacts. They are not used with the Neptune RTP, Moates Demon or Hondata. The ZIF is more or less just a bonus if you are continuously changing/burning your EPROM chip.

If you are running a Moates Ostrich a ZIF socket can be kind of a PITA. You will have to remove part of the ribbon connector for the locking arm to rotate. I use a low profile socket when using an Ostrich.

As for the loose wire. If I remember correctly, it should be soldered to pin No. 4 of the CN2 circuit.

GRN - WHT - Blank - GRY - BLANK
