Default Copy ecu chip without removing it?

Want to make a copy of a ROM on a PR3 ecu..

and was wondering if there is any way to do this that does not involved desoldering the chip itself?

you dont have to desolder anything to remove the chip.

so using a 28pin test clip is ok?

it is ok to dump the bin eventhough it is still soldered into the ecu?

be sure that the Burn1 software is set to the right rom type. (what ever is in the socket location)

I don't know OBD0 stuff well enough to answer.
But I do know this... is your ECU listed in this list?
http://www.b18c5eg.com/EcuDefinitionCodes/

if it is, and there's a bin attached to it, you may not have to pull anything.

i have tried 27c256

i am just getting inconsistant binaries
and verification with buffer never is successful

people have said i need to pull the chip
and a testclip wont work hrtuning

i am leaning towards this

or have you been successful with the procedure

the thing is, it is believe to be a spoon ecu... my friend wants me to check the maps for him

You may have to get a willem burner to read the chip. The Burn1 was designed for a handful of chips, and some may not work. The willem works with almost everything.

Given how easy it is to desolder chips with the solder-sucker I see in that picture, you should try that route if all else fails.

Make sure the pins are in the right order and that they're all making contact correctly.

well i can program and read a SST chip by itself

but on the ecu it doesnt work

would rather not desolder (not my ecu, and is believed to be a spoon ecu)

so maybe the burn1 cant read oem IC's?

im not sure on this but ive had the same probelms when trying to read a stock chip.not sure on this so im just taking a shot in the dark but i think honda may have found a way to lock it so the stock rom cant be tampered with.if u want to open or see a stock .bin just d/l it from a rom dump and look at it.that and i dont think the burn 1 is compatible with okie style chips.try calling moates and see what he says!

maybe that is the answer

i doubt the chip is locked in anyway.. or else how do people post the binary dumps on the net

Even if it was locked there'd still be people who get around it.

I remove it or use a test clip.

No,it no the stock chip...i can read in the programer a "Chipped chip" that i bought here in my country, and i also can read another chip i buy from the ebay.
i also can do a bin map in the Bre and then burn it in the chip, everything goes fine so far,the only problem its when i put the chip in the ecu, first i couldn't pass 4k,5k..now with a few changes in bre i only keep a solid cel...but that can be because of the changes i made...anyways,the ecu can't read the chip correctly...
There is some hex numbers or something like that to configure before burne the chip? im using 6,25v to burn the chip, the other choises the willem do it automaticly.. i always erase the chips before use with the UV...i presume im doing everything correctly...just the configuration of the willem programer im not sure..

I'm pretty sure the stock Honda Chips are ROM chips, AKA Read Only Memory. If that is the case, and I think it is, they cannot be dumped or over written. But they can be read and saved. Then once they are saved outside of the chip they can be edited by a ROM editor. That is why dealership/mechanics can only change simple aspects of the ECU's functions with a stock ECU and scan tool.

FYI, I was able to read an OBD0 chip that I had removed from the board using the burn 1 and the SST chip settings with no problem. I tried to erase the stock chip and was not able to do so..... ROM chip!

Is it set on 27c256? If not that may be causing your problem. The older chips found in these ecus don't correspond to the newer chips we use for tuning.
