Default Chipping P06 - Xenocron chipping kit missing components?

I've been in the process of destroying a P06 manual ECU by attempting to replace all the capacitors, adding the vtec circuitry and then adding the chipping kit (with basemap) from Xenocron. All of this purchased from Xenocron for a significant fee.

All components have been present for the documentation Xenocron points to with the exception of the chipping kit. It appears they missed the 1K resistor that is shown in their kit. Also the document they point to is on PGMFI.org. This document indicates 2 x 0.1 microfarad ceramic disc capacitors are also needed in the process in particular, for C51 and C52.

Xenocron's chipping kit does not have these noted. Nor are they physically present in my kit.

Are the capcitors no longer needed for chipping a 11F0 P06 board? Or is the user supposed to source them outside of their kit on their own? I believe the resistor was just missed in packaging as it is noted as part of the kit on their website just was not in my kit. That leaves only the capacitors in question whether they are required or not.

Xenocron points to introduction to chipping for their chipping "techinical document", which describes C51 and C52 for OBD1 ECU's. This has me greatly confused as I was under the impression the kits from Xenocron provide all components needed to complete the work required.

Anyone able to provide some insight?

The caps are for noise suppression but your ECU will work just fine without them R54 is needed though in order to activate the external chip.

yes. this. In theory, they dampen any electrical noise. In reality, you would never in any way notice whether the ecu has the caps or not. They are not required. In the beginning of chipping, they were common, and moates still ships with them. The only reason they were common though was because the ecu's that came with chips in that location from the factory had these caps, so everyone assumed if honda did it that they should too. Over time, many people and companies have come to find they make almost zero difference in anything.

I quit installing those caps a few years back and haven’t had any issues without them since.

Thank you everyone. I'm pretty sure I will get the ECU working. I did a number on a couple of pads but I know how to work around it including rebuilding a trace.

I found that the automatic cluster light board has a couple of 1K carbon film resistors on it so I don't have to order 100 of them and wait for delivery. My focus changed back to the car for a bit to be sure the motor runs before I spend much more time on the ECU. I quickly converted one of my back up auto ECU's to manual and started the car up on a non vtec ECU to be sure everything was at least working.

The unfortunate thing for me is more in line with the lack of electronic component stores in my area as no one fixes things anymore and everything is moving to SMD style. I was basically venting regarding my shoddy work as I tried to get started before I had all the right chemicals on hand as well as being extremely out of practice. As such I marred a few pads. I should still be able to get it to work just fine.

If I did botch this ECU, and I can't seem to locate another P06 ECU locally for cheap, that I can transfer components to, I will definitely look at the market place. To be honest, I try and avoid that as most y'all are in the states and the exchange for Canadian money sucks ***** badly right now.

I thank all of you for your expertise. I finished with the P06 ECU to run as a P28. Tested it today and it started up the D16Z6 stock motor just fine. CEL operation acted completely normal. Came on when I started the car with the IACV disconnected and went off when I started the car with the IACV connected. Does the normal 2 second CEL light fuel pump prime etc etc. You can see my mangle job here and see for yourself why I mentioned I trashed my ECU. Still works okay but I'm sure most all of you can do better work. heh.

I do have a question now that I know it all works. You all were so versed on the C51 and C52 capacitors not being needed, I am hoping you know the details regarding Jumper #10. Does Jumper #10 act for the vtec circuitry like Jumper #1 does for the chipping circuitry?

The documentation states cutting Jumper #1 returns the chipped ECU to stock format, however, the P06 normally doesn't have vtec components. I was wondering to truly turn the P06 back to stock formation if you should cut both Jumper #1 and Jumper #10? Both were added in the conversion process and are not present on a virgin P06.
