Default Cel after ecu chipped

what could cause an ecu to work perfectly fine after its chipped (not in limp mode, engages v-tec) yet throw a CEL? my friends ECU is throwing code 9 from what he said but its not affecting his performance at all. he's tested other ecu's in his car and no cell. also considering its a p28 with j12 removed, and he has an ls-v, if we were to cut the jumper and plug it up, will it still throw a cell? (i want to find out if its and ecu problem and not the chipping).

cel 9 is the cylinder sensor...you can cut the jumper wire and test it.

was the ecu throwing any codes before it was chipped?

im not sure, we never had a car to test it on, but does this make sence? would a bad chipping job cause a cel like that?

9*- Accord Civic CRV CRX Del Sol Odyssey Prelude
85-98** 86-98 97-98 85-91 93-97 95-98 85-98
CYP Sensor (Cylinder)

Cutting the J1 humper would be a good test to see if the ecu itsself is damaged.
J12 is not gonna make any difference, the obd plug will be disabled tho (with j12 cut), so you will have to pull your codes off of the service connector.

You could limp your car around on the p28's rom, but dont rev it at all, kinda pointless to rev it untill your mapping is right.

what do you mean "...ls-v (jumper cut)" We are talking about j1 right?

Edit: code 9 has nothing to do with the chips ROM or how well the ecu was chipped either. hope that helps.

what i meant was, if i cut j1 on the p28, and it does turn out to be an ecu issue, it should throw the same CEL even on an ls-vtec setup? i wouldnt drive the car, i just wanna determine if it was an issue chipping it or an issue with the ecu.

Cut the J1, reset the ecu, and post up results. If you have a cel after cutting the J1 check it and make sure it's the same code, oh and post pics of the chip job. I would never rule that out first since it was the only thing modified regardless of what code it's throwing.

will do, its just a little wierd being as ive never had a bad chip jobs as of yet with the guy i take them to (he used to chip x-boxes and stuff like that, even owns a sodering station) and the ecu threw a code on my friends jdm d15 before chipping it but we figured it was a wiring issue or an issue with it being a jdm motor and us ecu.
