? bolt ons and tunes
This is literally my first thread here. So whats up?! I have a full gsr swap in my Ek cpe. My question is if i replace my snail with a skunk2 pro series manifold will i need a tune? Or maybe not need one but it would benefit? For some time being im going to run the stock throttle body and injectors, but eventually im going bigger in both departments.. So will i need a tune period? Or just after bigger throttle body and injectors? Or what? Cant seem to figure it out :/. Thanks for all your help!
Hi, welcome to the forum. Snails are usually turbos not intake manifolds. If you are simply replacing the intake manifold then you don't NEED a tune but you would gain more HP if you did. If you change injectors then you will certainly need a tune to compensate for the size change.
First off why would you want to do that one a completely stock engine? Just trying to understand what direction you are heading with this car. If you did the manifold swap, it wouldn't necessarily need a tune, but it would definitely be a benefit to have one done. Even if that tune is just done on the street. This obviously requires more equipment to have performed.
Same thing for the throttle body... 90% of the people that get them don't even understand why they might need one and if so which size. Also, larger fuel injectors are absolutely unwarranted as well unless you have a hidden agenda down the road. It all comes back to - what are your overall plans for the car? Planning for the future can help you not waste money in the present.

you don't need it but its highly recommended . I finally had the opportunity to tune my stock gsr eg with bolt ons and I don't know why I took so long to do it. car is a different animal. your car will be running very rich through out the power band and cause you to lose power instead of gain.
Hmm ok ok. So the car is just a little project. Im definitely not going track status. My main goal is to just add horsepower and drive a mean clean honda i suppose, so what did you mean by require more equipment?? The bottom end is built with a stock head. The rest are bolt ons like header, exhaust, cold air, afpr. I just figured the next step was an intake manifold. Also about the throttle body and injectors.. What size throttle body would you suggest? And im assuming if im not going to boost just leave the injectors alone? Again i appreciate your guys help/knowledge.
I have the intake sitting in my garage, just trying to get facts straight before i start working. The last thing i want to do is damage something because i needed a tune and or just plain doing something wrong so im just covering myself. Thanks again fellas.

first off, the stock Y8 manifold actually flows pretty damn well.
before you do ANY modifications, you need engine management.
even a bone stock engine can make considerable gains with a good tune. but even the best mods are useless without proper tuning.
ask your local tuner if they support neptune or hondata.
and don't post a thread about which one is better.
neptune is.
PS hands down, best bang-for-the-buck are camshafts. buy neptune or hondata, then buy cams.
