basemap fail stories
I'm curious what are your basemap fail stories
mine is when I ran basemap for a day while waiting for new wideband
tuned the car with ebay SRI. to 13.7 or so.
wideband broke.
installed the tuned length intake with Vstack cuz I was bored and impatient
when I finally install the wideband again I was at 14.9 in high load high rpm when accelerating. almost **** my pants.

I think you're going to get a lot of negative feedback in this thread. because anyone who runs a car on a basemap without actual tuning is a moron, or simply doesn't know any better. but any decent tuner who provides a basemap will tell the person not to drive the vehicle without a proper full tune. so if a tuner provides a basemap and does not inform the customer of the difference, then the tuner is a moron and should not be tuning nor providing basemaps
but that doesn't stop people from driving lol
i wanted this for the noobs. because i still see at least once a week where someone is having engine issues and then i spot the famous last words " basemap along with 10 upgrades they did.
so i thought maybe if they actually see what happends when you run a basemap for years thinking its ok then maybe more of them will actually get smart and tune the car
i street tune my own cars but like i said sometimes i get impatient lol mine was almost a fail but I'm not an idiot to drive on basemap for years
and i didn't crack vtec either without wideband. i already had an idea where it would be because i took the intake from my old motor... i just used mine as an example of how much difference the intake alone can make without other boltons

Ive seen a lot of shitty basemaps. A lot of shitty "tunes" too.
There has been a few times Ive ripped CROME basemaps off chips just to see what was on there. Its usually just a generic, shitty basemap, but occasionally it will be crazy shitty. Like for instance a nearly flat ignition map that has a big plateau 20 degrees higher. Or just crazy settings, like 10k rpm rev limit.

funny you mention the nearly flat timing curves with a big plateau though, because that's actually how my engine runs best, proven both on the street and dyno. vehicle is in my sig
