Default aem or s300?

so i got offered to get an aem ems and them tune it for a pretty damn good price.. right now my setup is a pretty much stock lsv with gsr head. block stock and head just ported. basic i h e. gonna put in my arp rod bolts before its tuned. ive heard aem is junk but thats just their opinion. my question is is aem better than s300 when it comes to power numbers. i know you have more options in the aem im just wondering will be better. price isnt an option because like i said im getting a real good deal on it... thanks

Unless you have some crazy all motor build or bossted(20+psi) build no.... don't go with the AEM EMS. even if you got both for the same price you need some one who can properly tune on it. an s300 is great for medium+ builds and most tuners are familier with it.

The AEM EMS is definitely not junk. If the price is right I'd take the AEM over Hondata in a heart beat. Specially if your are getting it tuned by a reputable AEM tuner. Best bang for your buck for sure! The software is pretty user friendly as well. Only reason a lot of Honda guys don't use it is due to it's price and it is usually a bit overkill for most builds. If it's a comparable price I'd go for it! You won't be disappointed.

Your car will start, idle and drive better with S300.

Without going crazy on this never ending debate. From experience I have yet to see a professional tuner take the time to properly tune all of the advanced tables, cold starts, idle, part throttle etc. in stand alone systems. His engine is stock, use a factory based ECU with factory based calibrations. Everyone boasts about all the options AEM has but they always go unused.

Those are the areas that should be taken care of at the beginning of tuning and then touched up as you go. If your tuner doesn't tune for that... take your car somewhere else for tuning. I would say that they have no idea what they are doing with a stand alone EMS and have no right to call themselves a tuner... Those types of tuners would be what I would consider more of a Honda ROM editor.

Not true... I was able to get my car to start and idle just as well with my series 2 box as with the s300 and I'm not a tuner i do this as a hobby. As stated before, AEM gets a bad rap because people don't know how to use it. I remember opening AEM tuner for the first time and I was like WTF! I almost went back to the s300..lol.. I say go with the AEM. If you decided to go COP in the future the options are better.

I would have the AEM EMS in a heart beat or less.

We dont have a aem tuner locally, am vaguely the only user of aem ems in a 1000 mile radius, and still i LOVE MY EMS OVER anything else.

I tune the box myself, read about things online... get alot of etune support from DRT tuning NY. And i agree i have tiny issues with start - actually still have them because i dont have a local tuner. BUT that being said - i still continue to slowly get my car close to perfection with my EMS.

Why i love the EMS? the user interface is amazing if you really want to DIY and learn more. The flexibility is through the roof, playing with sensors, setups all kinds of induction setup, going turbo boost, advance boost options, the option to add gauges directly to the box and the features.

Last week i had a scare of blowing my EMS - the mech tried to open the alternator bolt with the battery connected and i was almost certain that its blown. NOTHING happened to the EMS and am still happily using it. I had the aem tech on the phone within no time to help me out even if my questions were emotional than technical (the thought of sending the ems back half way around the world is crazy)

And yet, a year down the line today since i have the ems, I love it and it has made me learn more and enjoy more. Did it myself and proud of it.

Grrr, carried away long testimonial.

Kind Regards

I'm a total noob and I had very little issues getting my Car running well on the v1 AEM. Look at the end of my latest 2 videos http://www.youtube.com/user/MegaMars...ew=0&flow=grid Running great right out of the gate
It's a excellent system, granted they have had their mishaps. If thats what you Tuner likes then go with it. As long as it's wired and setup right your golden!
