AEM EMS coolant issue
Hello,
I have a 1040 ems on a 98 (obd1) b18c T civic.
My AEM EMS shows me that the coolant temp in idle is going up to 104c (219F) only then the rad's fan kick's in until it's going down to 103c (217F)
now, my heat on my gauge cluster is fine, worked perfect before the EMS.
I replaced my coolant sensor (on the thermostat housing)
also replaced the thermostat from 80C to 70C one.
I can see some change, but still the fan kick's in at 219F.
no other issues, I tuned the car like that, it's all fine, not overheating, the cluster gauge is OK.
my guess was that it's something wrong with the AEM's calibration for the sensor.
I started to mess around with the CLT sensor configurations, and then I saw the temps changing LIVE... from 219 to 180 to 200 every time I changed something in the parameters there.
did anyone came across this problem ??
I did some searching and come up empty.
Only thread I found was this:
https://honda-tech.com/engine-manage...temps-2939759/
did not understood the calibration he was talking about. my fan or the sensor is not controlled from the EMS or am I wrong ?
please help

you can see the calibration of the sensor , in the sensors settings.
if you want take the sensor out, and check a few points. if you want you can also buy an AEM sensor, will save a few headaches.

you can check your map to see if your rad fan is being controlled by it ( LS1 output i believe ) and what temperatures it is to come on and off
it has a setting to when to turn on and turn off
it has a setting to when to turn on and turn off

tried all that. nothing worked.
does the EMS control on the fan ?
i see here in the manual that the OBD1 (like my car) is an pnp option..
http://redcamber.net/manuals/aem/EMS_-_30-1000.pdf - page 5, A12.
i think that the problem is that the EMS is giving me a false read of the coolant temp.
i see this in an s2k forum also.
anyone ??

can you post your calibration?
Do you have a wire going to pin A12?
Also keep in mind the stock gauge cluster isnt the greatest at actually telling you the temp of the motor. It heats up and sometimes has a pretty wide range at normal temp and overheat before the needle starts to move.

this is the manual for 1040

and sated above the pin for rad fan is A12
best thing to do is post up calibration

after a good detective work, we found out that the AEM EMS is reading false Temp.
i checked with another EMS and with a heat gun, 2 more civics, same temp.
so i will drive along with this for a while and hope for the best [=
thank you all

if you want to fix it , easy way, get the aem temp sensor:
and update the wizard, in the software.
boom issue fixed.
