Default 89CRX dx Build, Throwing Code 8

I bought this crx a few weeks ago and it was pretty gutted. It had came stock with the d15b2 with dpfi. I was looking for a little more power so I went out and got a d16a6 out of an 88 si.

The engine had a mini-me done to it and I removed that as I didn't want it for the first time doing a build. I got a nice head off a 91 civic ex and I assumed the dizzy was fine. I got the motor in and it was running fine but I couldn't get it past 2000 rpm without it missing really bad.

I took a look at the ecu and saw it was throwing a code 8, which I read means that the dizzy is either going bad or will soon go bad. I took the cap off and noticed some metal shavings so I guess I have to go get a new dizzy.

My question to you all is, I am not that great with this stuff and I am not sure what distributor to get as the one for 88-89 is different from 90-91. The car no longer starts at all and I really need to get this running.

I did the mpfi swap just so you guys know.

Any information would help me tremendously,

thank you again,

Bob

Up. I guess the main thing I need is to know what distributor I need to get... I have a head from a 90 civic ex and the harness is the 89 dx, does that mean I need to get the 89 dizzy, or must I get the dizzy for that head?

Much appreciated.
