I have a 91 Integra GS which I adore. I have to put a new head gasket on it thanks to that daggone coolant hose under the distributor. Since I gotta pull the head anyway I was thinking about few mods to the head to improve horsepower. Should I have machine shop port the head? Or is it better to go with a b18b1 or b18c1 head or b16 to improve horsepower. I dont want to do ls vtec. So what would you guys do to your own car to improve hp and torque? I can spend quite a bit on this so let me know what you think and how much hp it will make reliably. I know b16 b18b1 b18c1 are vtec heads but there has to be some power left in the b18a1 head/ So should i do porting polishing on the head or camshafts? Any thoughts?

 

Putting a B18C1 or B16 head on it is LS/VTEC. We get 180-185whp out of race LS engines for the circle track but they wouldn't last long on the street.

Honestly you should just pull the whole engine, change the oil pump and t-belt set, run ARP rod bolts, shot peen the stock rods, new Honda Bearings, Nippon P30 pistons, LS/VTEC kit, stock B16 head and a good tune. Worlds better than what you have and not crazy expensive so long as you get a complete head and aren't afraid of a little rewiring for the vtec switch.
