Coolant in the oil and a massive crack that can be seen with the naked eye and you need to ask if it's cracked?

Looks cracked to me. Pressure test the cooling system and see if you see it leaking.

I just asked guys because I'm no expert. I tore it apart because I wanted to see if the headgasket was blown. But it also looked like someone surfaced the bottom of this head with a brick. So new head, I guess.

No worries, just when you can actually see the crack and you have chocolate milkshake oil in the head, you know without any doubt it or the block or both are cracked.

The suggestion of pressuring the coolant system is a good one. You will likely see the coolant coming out of that crack to verify beyond any doubt.

The cracks that are unsure of are the microscopic ones you can't see without magneflux dying the head heads or block. Being an aluminum head and block, it's a special dye used to isolate cracks.

In your case, don't need to go through that process as you can see it with the naked eye. And it's so large, pressuring the coolant should easily confirm.

Better luck with your next head.

Actually... That passage that is cracked is for oil, not coolant. I just looked at one and removed the rocker arm base (?) with a 17mm. It does in fact appear to be cracked, but your coolant is coming from somewhere else...

He's cracked on the intake and the exhaust channel, is both sides for oil?

That's what it looks like to me. Those oil galleys appear to feed the ball part of the rocker arm. After realizing that, there's no reason for coolant to be that high in the head. Definitely an oil passage.

Hey guys. The coolant in the oil is from this: i dont think the crack caused this.

It also looked like whoever had this car before me surfaced this head with a god damn brick. All 4 cylinders were blown and a couple coolant passages were blown. The scratches were so deep you could take your nails across them and hear it. And im also located in Maryland.
