Im in the midst of doing a headgasket, timing belt etc job on a 96 Integra. I got the head off and machined, and upon removal of the crank pulley i found this... I had this on my own personal car as well, but was able to just put it back together w/a new key and pulley







Im curious if theres anything aside from replacing the crank/engine that can be done to save this.

Also, what causes this? Ive never had a crank pulley just come loose, but I have seen them wobble, which I assume is the rubber wearing out.

Yes. Crankshaft should be able to be repaired. I had a crankshaft damaged in a similar way from an aftermarket aluminum crank pulley. It rounded the keyway and the crank pulley would wobble like a ****. I found a local crankshaft repair shop in the Houston area and they repaired it. I can't remember what they charged but I think it was reasonable like maybe a hundred bucks or so.

Just make sure after they weld it that they don't cut it a 180 degrees out like they did mine. I had a helluva time trying to set base ignition timing lol.

I ended up sourcing a 4.5mm X 21mm key and pushed it in under the timing belt cog and it stuck out enough for the crank pulley to engage. I'm hoping it'll work.

Good luck. Are you gonna put a new crank pulley on too?

I had a similar problem. Replaced the crank pulley as well. Got my parts from my local dealership. Honda Service Norwood Ma | Parts Center | Boch Honda Norwood

Pulley wasn't damaged, so no I didn't put another one on it.
